Quick history lesson.

I first stayed at CBR back in 1988 or 1989 shortly after it first opened. It was a wonderful experience.

Despite travelling to WDW many times a year since, I didn't have an occasion to stay there again until February of 2001. I called from the car on a Saturday morning and booked a one night stay there.

Our room (in Trinidad South) was a disaster. Torn and stained drapes, badly stained carpet, big chunks of plaster missing from the walls in several spots, bathroom cabinetry barely clinging on, black mold stained tile grout, etc.

I was astonished. In the past 4 years, we've stayed on-site on roughly 30 different occasions spanning around 125 nights. This was the ONLY time I encountered something like this at a WDW resort.

Well, fast forward to this past weekend. Another fairly spur of the moment trip. I decided to give CBR another try. This time we we in Barbados building 16 (room 1623 to be exact.) What a nice location, nice circular sitting area outside the door.

On to the condition of the room. Two words - absolutely fantastic. The carpet simulates the look of palm fronds (not the mustard yellow in the other room) the coral colored paint was fresh, the colorful fish wallpaper border really stood out. The drapes and bed spreads were vibrant. The shower surround was no longer tile, but a carved psuedo-Corian material with birds of paradise. It looks outstanding. Even the tile floor (which is great) in the bathroom looked new.

All in all, WDW did a masterful job with this rehab.

Do you know if all the buildings have been rehabed? How did you like Barbados for its location? Is it far from the food court? How were the buses?

thanks and pixie dust to you.

My understanding from other posters on this site is that all the rooms have been refurbed. We stayed at CBR a couple weeks ago (thanks to Sea Spray and her great pics and website about this resort, as well as the other DIS poster recommendations). We were in Jamaica 43 with a Courtyard view and I was very pleased with our room. I'm very picky about hotel accomodations. I made several reservation changes before settling on CBR. My DH thought I was nuts from all the itinerary changes I made. Anyway, the beds at CBR were real comfy and the decor bright and cheery. There was plenty of storage space at the vanity area and throughout the room. We'll be going back to CBR in August.

BTW, does anybody know if the beds are oversized doubles at CBR? They don't feel as small as a regular double.

Ok, this is an historical day!!!!!!!!!!! :D

gcurling!

In a million years I never thought I'd read that you went back to CBR! :D

I'm glad you did, though, and I'm glad you were happy this time!!!!! :) CBR really did do a nice job of refurbishing, didn't they?? :)

Thanks for your review...! :)

What is the name of the hotel you stayed at in Wildwood??? We are in CT & thinking of going there this summer & need some sort of hotel on/near the beach. Yours looks just like what we are looking for!!!

Thanks!!

Here is a link to the hotel we stayed at, it's called The Madrid

We were there 2 years ago and the rooms were in need of a refurb and now I see on their site that they JUST completed an entire refurb! The pictures of the new rooms look nice! :) I knew before we stayed there that the rooms weren't in the best of shape but I chose to stay there anyway because I LOVE the location and the view from EVERY room :) I think you will like this resort :) Its not IN the city of Wildwood, by the way, you have to drive a few minutes away to get to the boardwalk. This resort is in Wildwood Crest, which I like because I go there with my DH and DSs :) If you have any other questions, I'll see if I can find the answers if I don't know them myself :)

Soooooo........ glad to hear great things about CBR! We will be there , for our first stay in 4 days! Only 2 nights! So short, but DH doesn't get any vacation and since we are only 3 hours away, we must make the best of a few days here and there! Oh, well... this our third time since Nov and plan on going back again in Sept or Nov...

Good news for us.

My girlfriend and I will be staying there in eleven days and we're so looking forward to this trip. I'm glad to hear that the rooms are in good condition.

SeaSpray, I am a changed man. The difference was truly remarkable.

I was completely honest with my report of last year's room condition, it was as bad as I reported. Believe it or not, I'm not too terribly particular about those kinds of things. I have just stayed in so many WDW resort rooms and NEVER encountered anything like that!

Sorry to have knocked you on the floor, but hold on tight again... I actually thought of trying to convince my wife to let me switch from DxL to CBR for our trip next month. But, she has her heart set on a return to DxL (it's been a couple of years since we stayed there.)

Count this as an overwhelming recommendation for CBR (from one of its former critics.)

We will be heading to CBR in 4 days. I can't say that we have ever had a bad experience at CBR. The rooms have always been great. We have stayed at CBR every year since 96 and have always enjoyed our stay.

CBR has always been my favorite resort but I haven't stayed there since 1998! I think the reports of shabby rooms kept me away for awhile. I am so glad to hear that it is like new and shiny again. I will be there in just 11 days and can't wait! :earsgirl:
