We are going to CBR in January and were wondering if it is feasible to walk to Epcot or MGM. The maps make the resort look so close, but I know looks can be deceiving. This will be our first time at CBR, so we have no idea how close it really is.

Thanks!

It would be a long walk and I personnally would not recommend it. There are no sidewalks or provisions(walkways at stop lights etc).

If you have kids, NO WAY. Too many people driving too fast in rental cars and trying to read a map, talk on their cell phone and drive on these 4 lane roads to allow a child anywhere near them.

It is definitely not as close as it looks. Walking is not an option.

Hi Miss Magnolia:wave2:
I actually asked this question on the transportation thread a few weeks ago. I bumped it to the top of the transportation thread for you. I'm sorry I don't know how to show the link. My family is going to try this walk when we go next week(if the buses are running crowded) so you can watch for my posts when we return. I actually think we will walk from the Boardwalk back to CBR. Then of course once you are at the BW you can walk to EPCOT or MGM. Chip n Dale said yes there are sidewalks. Look up the post I mentioned and print out the aerial photo. I'm taking my copy with me. Got to go - it's time for me to pack. Don't forget the walking shoes!

I would not plan to walk to the parks from CBR. I was there this past May, and the buses weren't crowded. There was always a bus going to some park at the bus stops. It wasn't that long of a wait.

Hi Miss Magnolia & TimeWarp - Do you know how far it is that you are planning to walk? Depending on where your room is in CRB, I think it will be several miles. To me that would be a long hike at the end of the day after I walked around in the parks all day. Of course, I just turned the big 50 this year so my little feet would be telling me ride don't walk. Have a great trip & I hope the walk is shorter than I think it will be for you!!!!

I have stayed at CBR as a single gentleman (well sometimes I am a gentleman), and did walk to EPCOT, the Studios, and the Boardwalk. I hate waiting.

Leaving the Boardwalk headed south, you go past the parking lot, to the light that controls entry to the Studios. There you can turn left and there is a sidewalk along the north side of the 6 lane road. Walk along this until you reach the next traffic light, which now allows drivers to head south to the Sports Comples and Pop Century. At this point cross to the south side of the road, and you're on the NW corner of the CBR complex. There is not a sidewalk on this side, but you can veer off to the CBR sidewalks and complex. As a rough guess it's 3/4 mile from the Boardwalk Lobby to the CBR corner.

If you're headed to the Studios, Boardwalk, or EPCOT from CBR, just reverse the process. Head NW out of CBR to the corner of the busy streets, Cross to the North side and use the sidewalk, heading West. At the next light, if you're headed for the Studios, cross back and head in (or better, go into the Boardwalk area, hit the path to the Studios and follow that, a bit longer, but much nicer and sefer). If you're headed to the BW or EPCOT, walk up to the hotel, through the passage to the BW, then wherever you like.

Having said I did it, I was alone, without any children to (1) complain about the walk and (2) worry about the traffic, etc. Even though it was possible, I can't say I enjoyed it. With small humans, it probably would have been the pits. In that situation, the busses probably are the way to go.

I really like hanging around the Boardwalk area, so this trek firmly convinced me that when I go to WDW I stay in the Boardwalk area.

Thanks for the directions Calcio. I like having the option of walking.
