Caution? Disney Movies

Daxx relax! :goodvibes

I am not the OP, I never said any kid would look for it. Read my post again.

I actually stated twice now that I don't care about the phallic symbols or anything else in regards to children. I just said I find it interesting to sometimes search for them if I hear about them.

This is from my second post:

"And again I find it more interesting than anything else. To answer the OP's questions, these things don't bother me at all. I am reading the orginal Alice In Wonderland to my 4 year old daughter and its much more wacky than the Disney version."

:goodvibes

Honestly I agree with you! :)

Oh, I know ... I am just reiterating that children really don't go looking for these things. Kids aren't geared to look for sex. They're about the characters and story lines and pretty princesses in sparkly dresses, not to mention the whole "find my prince and live happily ever after" thing.

Like you, I'd rather my child watch Disney movies than the other garbage that is out there!!!!!

I think you are making too big deal about it if you are worried about your kids watching Disney Movies. They are not going to see these things unless they are told about it. You really have to search. (I've done it. Aladdin & The Lion King ones are actually true.)

But even if the kids hear about it, and actually go looking for it, who cares. They'll giggle and move on. Seeing the word sex written in the clouds for 1 second is not going to affect them.

SEX in Lion King is really SFX, the name for the company who did the sound effects.

The initials SFX were put there by a Disney animator -- it has nothing to do with a subliminal ad for a company that does sound effects but refers to "Special Effects", also known as SFX.

So interesting that the OP has two posts to their name -- and they are the same post, just on different boards. Let's not feed the trolls.

This is very interesting!!!

Thank you for posting this, because I had no idea of this.

You have got to be kidding me. Really, it takes so little to stir things up sometimes... :confused3

The Aladdin one -- he's telling Raja to take off, not telling kids to take off their clothes (put the close captioning on -- you'll see what I mean). Arg, I hate when people keep bringing these stupid things up!

I know what is secretly inserted in ALL the disney movies..........
It's a loop that says "You love Disney. You will spend every moment planning and achieving your trip sto Disney. You love Disney. You will spend...."

::yes::
If you go to imdb.com (International Movie Database), and search for sfx, you will come up with a list of different sfx companies and the movies they worked on.
In the case of Lion King, the SFX group that inserted their initials in the clouds were the ones that do the effects like clouds, water, stars, etc. and make them look realistic.

At least you are agreeing that SFX are not initial denoting "sound effects" but rather "special effects."

My own source comes from a quote in the book "The Gospel According to Disney":
...quoted Tom Sito, who they described as "a straight talking animator." Sito told them that the letters in the clouds in The Lion King actually spell "SFX," short for special effects. "Someone on the animation team wanted to leave a little 'calling card' in the film," they wrote. "Animators insert the images as an inside joke to be shared with their colleagues."

Perhaps we're both right. :scratchin

Ahhh, welcome to the DIS, Ren. :confused3

I was wondering, what with your 'not trying to be a burden to parents' thought, that your first and only two posts here on the DIS are this one and an almost (looks like you changed '*****' to 'male genitalia' after the filter did your word in) identical one (sort of like spam/troll) on the Family board. Seems contradictory to your stated initial thought there.

i'd suggest everyone to just stop posting on this thread, its just a troll and they are just trying to get people arguing over nothing.

We are both right.
i mostly posted the imdb link to show that I wasn't making up what SFX stood for.
The animators that do the things like clouds, stars and things like magic sparkle are the effects animators. For the Disney films they are (or were before Disney got rid of their hand drawn animators) Disney animators in the area that does special effects.
My source is my DD, who is an illustrator and went to art school with animators.

Troll or not, I think it's actually an interesting topic. I can remember spinning records backwards when I was younger trying to hear all of the subliminal messages. I see no reason to argue with anyone over this topic though. I worked at Walmart when they pulled the Rescuers from the shelves. I remember wondering what perv took the time to slow the movie down that slow to find such a thing. I love to find mistakes and such in movies but would never go to such lengths. I have no problem with my children watching any Disney movie. (and before anyone else mentions it, I've let them watch much worse. So, Disney can't and won't do any harm to them.)

Shoot, the best way to get rid of a troll is to take their "sensationalist" view and turn it in to a grown-up, interesting conversation.

Sure, none of it's true, but if it was:

Frankly, if my kids see male genitalia, I'm not worried a bit. They are both male after all, and have anatomically correct male dolls.

I also don't care if my kids see the word "sex"..............there's nothing wrong with the word or the act in the right circumstances.

And if my kids heard someone say "take your clothes off" to someone else, they're liable to think they want them to take a bath!

These are big deals to the adults because THEY think of the implications. Kids are concrete thinkers.........implications escape them, even if they knew enough to conclude these things........and kids shouldn't know enough to figure any of it out anyway. By the time they are old enough, they don't want to watch Disney movies.

I'm far more protective of my kids seeing the evening news..........THAT will give them an education!

I agree, troll or not, it's an interesting topic.

I was a kid when I saw all of these movies and look how I turned out! Obsessed with asking people to take their clothes off, scared of priests, interested in sex & phallic symbols and hooked on opium. Darn Disney!

Seriously though, these are all rumors and hyped beyond belief by people trying to shoot down Disney. And I never once saw ANY of them until I found the info on the internet years later.

Check out the snopes page on the Little Mermaid.
It's obviously his knee ;)

And please, if we're going to rule Disney out as suitable movies for children to watch... what else are we going to have them watch?! We've got to get hooked on Disney at some point so we can have an excuse to take them to Disney World!! :rotfl:
