I'm looking for new living room furniture. I don't want to spend more than $1000. We have two leather sofas in our family room, which our yellow lab sleeps on. I like the leather sofas, but I think I'd like something different for the living room, as two rooms of leather seem too much. There's also 3 cats who don't sleep on the sofas but are known to roam / jump on them to look out windows. The leather cleans up really nicely with the animal fur. Would micro fiber be as good? Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated!

My inlaws have 10 weimaraners (no, that's not a typo! ;)) and they have been really happy with their microfiber sofa. My MIL says dog messes of all types have cleaned up easily.
We have leather with our dogs and cats.

We are happy with how our microfiber sofas clean up, but in the winter when the air is drier, we have problems with static.

For sofas that are cheap but durable, I would recommend a Big Lots if you have one near you. They have several sofas for $300 or so, and a nice chocolate brown sectional for $600.

Danemom - 10? Really?! God bless 'em! I love animals too and would probably have as many except that I'm not home enough to give all the attention they would need!

Hickchick - I have Big Lots about 2 miles from me, and will definitley look at the microfiber sofas. I am happy to hear that they clean up well. My big concern with Big Lots is the quality, will they really hold up? I have three teens, one who comes home with college buddies, and they are sometimes worse than the animals! :rotfl:

We had a cheap, red microfiber sofa in the past & now have a light tan one.

The tan one was scotch guarded. Both cleaned up well, usually with just a baby wipe. I noticed the red one would leave red color on the wipe & even on our walls...but I never noticed actual fading of the couch. I have not noticed color transfer with the tan couch. The seat covers are fully removable, I spot clean with a baby wipe and then throw them in the regular laundry once in awhile to spiff them up. The only problem I am having is the arms...my kids spill on them a lot. They clean up pretty well, but are starting to look dirty/worn after some 3 years or so of spills.

I don't have a problem with dog/cat hair sticking to it. In the winter I slip a dryer sheet in each cushion...makes the static issue virtually non-existent. For another seat we have with a traditional upholstery covering I use a mitt that is made for removing hair from furniture. It works quite well. I want to say it was made by pledge maybe...it was inexpensive.

Now how to keep the little cat fur balls off my bed sheets & my carpeting would be a nice trick. With two medium haired cats in the house...well, we have lots of cat hair "tumbleweeds."

I also love the microfiber sofas! We have special needs kitties, so it's always nice to clean up any sort of mess they may make - though they never use the bathroom on it, thank goodness.

lol Kitty tumbleweeds! I know them all too well! I am going to check out microfiber sofas tomorrow, thanks all! Going up to bed now, with DH and all 3 of the kitties and their fur, the dog is on her sofa snoring away, good night all!

Strangely enough - those pet hair grabber things they sell actually work. I think Pledge makes one and maybe 3M? Not enough coffee yet. Oh, and we love our Microfiber couch and chair. As do Ebony and Amber!

Since you live in CT, don't forget to also check out Bob's furniture and compare the quality to the Big Lots.

Do you have a home comfort store in your area. We just ordered a chocolate brown microfiber sofa for our home. The material is easy clean up. Also, the cushions and the frame have a lifetime warranty. The normal price is $1100 but with the big sale we got the sofa for 750.

Taylor, I've never heard of home comfort, but the deal sounds awesome. Do they have a website? I've always wanted to visit NC to see all the furniture outlets. Any you can recommend? thanks!:cutie:

Redwitch, I've seen those grabber things on clearance at BJ's..I'll try one!

Semo, your dog looks like my Sadie, the yellow lab! Cutie! Same sort of fur. Short hair that gets on and sticks to everything!!

I'd look into a microfiber slip cover so you can take it off and wash it.

We have a HUGE microfiber sectional in the family room and we love it. It is easy clean up for dogs and kids.
