Cats at Disneyland?

Adopted? So, like, if I found a cat at Disneyland I could just take it home? Or are there rescue groups that go out there and scoop them up?

Oh wow, DD will be "cat watching" at every chance she gets! LOL :ccat:

Thanks for the pics, Bradk. :cat:

Oh, this is wonderful news! For many years I have made a habit of finding cats every where we go, often to the great amusement of the other guests if I am on a tour! I am excited to know that I can keep my eyes peeled for kitties while we are there

bradk, thanks for the photos!

DesertBell, I am going to guess they are picked up by rescue groups. That's usually the way it works when there are strays in a public place, even if they are very friendly. The rescue groups have the equipment and know-how to do it safely and humanely, and they can adopt them out to local families.

Wow, I have never seen cats, mice or, thankfully, rats in Disneyland or the hotels. I assumed they must be around but I am not going rat-hunting to find out. If I may share a gross story of something I spotted, though - once, back in the old days, when the Submarine ride was the old version and not the Nemo version, and the line for the Monorail was somewhere in that vicinity too, my friends and I were walking past the Sub line one summer night, I think, en route to something, and there was a man talking to his friends in line. All of a sudden, just as we passed, one of those big ol' honkin' roaches (not the indoor kind, but the large, outdoor variety) just appeared on his chest and started crawling up his chest and over his shoulder and onto his back!!! Ick. The weird thing was, he just kept talking and didn't seem to notice. I almost thought he had put it on himself purposely to freak out his friends, because how could he not notice? An then we kind of glanced over at the rocks by the water and could see and occasional large roach traipsing across, but Disney does a good job of keeping them hidden or something because I think if people saw them more often, they would be scared off from standing in certain spots! It was just so big, and it was just marching across his chest and over his shoulder onto his back! Creepy!

I bet people smuggle them out of the park all the time, though.

(Incidentally, the "I" in the statement above was purely hypothetical. I have three dogs and a cat; I have nothing left for anything else, not even a Magic Cat. ;) )

Hello! We stayed at the CGH hotel and I went on the morning power walk that is offered for CGH guests - 45 minutes around DCA with a very knowledgeable CM. We did see a cat and he confirmed that the 17-20 (I think) cats that are tolerated at the parks are there to keep the rodent population at bay. The cats are expected to do that job at night and stay out of sight as much as possible during the day (can't you just imagine a Disney "Cat Member" training manual?)

Anyway, many of the cats apparently sleep the day away at the top of Grizzply Peak or somewhere on the Matterhorn. Too noisy for me, but hey, I'm not a cat!

When a cat becomes too friendly, they are indeed adopted to loving homes.

Just had to drop in with this confirmation!

I also hear that they round them up every now and then for veterinary care, so it seems as though they are pretty well cared for. :cat:

Anyone know if they are spayed/neutered?

This picture is from May 2005. It the the steps to the old Fantasyland Skyway attraction, near the exit to the Casey Jr. Circus Train.

When DH and I first got our annual passes (early 90s), we used to always see cats near the train station in New Orleans Square. We still see them every now and then.

This is in California Adventure at that seating/stage area in front of the Monster's Inc ride.

This cat was friendly. Came right up to us and was batting at my fingers.

I have only seen one mouse in Disneyland, thankfully no rats.

My daughter and I were eating at outside of Test Pilots (CA) when we noticed half a dozen fluffy cats lounging in the sun on the faux train tracks.

They were super cute :cat:

I've seen mice many times! :goodvibes Mostly I see them near the Matterhorn in the flower beds. I've not yet seen a cat, but I sure hope I do next time I go! I would LOVE to see a cat at Disneyland. It sounds like Hungry Bear is the best place to look.

We saw a cat when we were riding the Mark Twain. It was on the island. I showed my kitty obsessed son and he was thrilled.

Yes! We saw a little gray striped kitty in the bushes near the entrance to Tomorrowland. We were watching the Christmas parade, and he sort of popped out to see what was going on. I thought it was so funny; I'd heard about the cats, but had never seen one until then. So half of my parade video is of the cat in the bushes.

We saw two cats by the Boudin Bakery. Also saw the tiny mice outside Peter Pan.

I finally saw a cat today! I couldn't believe it. I just posted that after all these years I have never seen one. I wasn't even looking for one. It was when we were all piling out of DL at closing time. The cat ran across the street at the roundabout in front of the castle. He was HUGE. He ran into the middle of the circle.
