Cats and Basil

My husband brought in some basil and parsley from our herb garden this morning, and our kitty Charlie got all curious. He could smell them and after DH put them in the fridge he let Charlie smell his hand. He went nutty like when he smells catnip! I just looked it up and discovered that catnip is in the mint family of plants, which includes basil. Learn something new every day.

That is funny! I used to grow a ton of basil in a raised bed in my backyard--I had about 20 plants and they got really tall. I always used to find neighborhood cats resting under the basil plants in the garden plot! I just assumed they were looking for shade, but now I think there was more to it.
