Catholic Ceremony

I have always dreamed of being married in Disney World. And now that I am engaged (as of Saturday:banana: !) I have started calling Disney and asking all sorts of questions.

I never thought about what I was told. The coordinator told me that the Wedding Pavillion is not recognized by the Catholic Church and that a priest cannot marry us there. Instead we would have to be married at our local church prior and once we have been married, then a priest can marry us again at the Pavillion. Seems like a lot of work. She said the other option is to get married at a church in Orlando and come back to Disney for the reception.

I come here to ask since I see how nice and helpful everyone on this board is.

I appreciate all or any help you can offer.

Thanks!

We are getting married at Sea Breeze Point. I spoke to Rev. Jack Day about our ceremony.

He is going to do a Catholic ceremony, but he cannot provide the sacraments and such since they are not recognized by the diocese. In my situation that is fine with us. I am not sure what your situation is.

My friends, who are also Catholic, had a wedding that was not at a church and they had to do the same thing. Their ceremony was still Catholic, but without the mass. It was beautiful. Their officiant was pretty cool. He was part of a movement of Catholic priests that were married. He was a neat guy to talk to. Though, again, he's not recognized by the diocese.

Hope that helps :)

Traditionally, the Catholic Church will not recognize a marriage that is not held in a Catholic church and officiated by a Catholic priest. You can have your marriage blessed in the church after the fact, but some dioceses frown on that though and prefer you get married in the church first and then basically do a vow renewal for the Disney ceremony. It really depends on your home diocese. If you feel comfortable speaking with your priest you should ask him. There is a thread on here somewhere from a girl who got a retired priest to officiate their ceremony at the WP. If it is very important to you and your family that you have a Catholic wedding, speak with your priest before proceeding.

Best Wishes :goodvibes

Hi, I also really wanted a Catholic wedding. However, I also wanted a Disney wedding. The Disney wedding won :goodvibes

We're also doing what o0IrishEyes0o did. Having Rev. Jack Day do a Catholic ceremony. We were hoping to have our marriage blessed by our priest after we returned from Disney. However, he will not do that. So, we'll either have to find a new priest or re-marry in the Catholic church down the road. For us, this won't be a problem until we have children b/c we want them baptised Catholic. So we're just going to put off figuring this out for a few years.

Good luck to you :) There are many other Catholic Disney brides on this board who have had to deal w/ this issue.

Of course I was going to make an appearance on this thread. I knew JJClemson would be here too.

I have been dealing with this problem everyday since I started planning my DFTW months ago. I have reccently been in touch with the dioceses in Orlando through e-mails and phone calls. She's kind and sort of helpful and getting us moving in a direction. We have strange circumstances that the catholic church may accomodate and we are speaking to a priest in our area. DF's priest is in MA and can't help us much. It will be posted all over the DIS boards should I ever get some solid information.

Best wishes. :wizard:

I totally understand where you are coming from.

I am also a catholic but always dreamed of getting married in Disney and I too faced the problem of the church not recognising our vows.

However, I found a priest who has agreed to do a catholic ceremony and who will include the sacraments of communion. My mother is delighted.

Although, it will still not be recognised by the church I take great solice in the fact that a priest is marrying us and including the sacraments. In my view the priest is a respresentative of God and we are marrying in Gods eyes and thats enough for me.

I am meeting my priest at the end of April at which point I will ask his permission to give his contact details. If this is a solution to your problem or if anyone else is interested I will post his details when I return in mid May.

I hope this helps!

My priest also said that he would not marry us if we had our DFTW first. So we got married at our church in NJ on Saturday, all dressed up with some family and friends then on Monday we had our DFTW at the Wedding Pavilion. Rev. Day did a Catholic style ceremony. It worked for us

Jenny, as soon as you have more info please let me know. Thank you all for your help. I was thinking that maybe we could have the ceremony in a church down there and then travel back to Disney for the reception. But that seems like a lot of work.

I got some info from this catholic priest that can perform the wedding at Disney, but he hasnt responded and thats upsetting me.. I e-mailed him a month ago... I will keep you posted.. If I dont get him I will use Rev. Jack Day:)
