Can anyone tell me if a cat. 8 room is worth the extra $ (about $500 more - we need two connecting rooms) over a cat. 9? :confused3

Both are deluxe oceanview. :earboy2:

The biggest difference that I can tell is that the cat. 9's are on decks 1&2 and the cat 8's are on decks 5, 6, & 7.

Is there anything else?

Thanks!!

We are booked in three category 9's for our November cruise.

My understanding is that the only difference is location. Personally, I would save the $500 and book the category 9.

Cat 9 is unquestionably a better value...picking the right cat 9 stateroom location is critical though....2108-2120, 2608-2620 you cant go wrong.....

Absolutely, I'd book the 9. The only difference is location on the ship. We actually liked deck 2...but I've found something to like about almost every place I've been.

We had Cat 9 adjoining rooms on deck 2. FANTASTIC location.

We rebooked for the same rooms.

Only major noise we heard was on disembarkation day, the wails of the people who didn't want to leave! :rotfl2:

Jim

PS we had/have 2148/2146.

May I ask, why those specific locations? My cruise currently has 2572 open... :confused3

I just booked our first cruise for 9/2/06 on Disney Wonder for the Eastern Carribbean. We reserved cabin 2114. Why is the range of 2108-2120 better than other cabins?

Thanks

Staceymerrill,

I was wondering the same thing!

Why are these better? Are they not on the "noisy list" or is there something else??

Terri

OK I'll be the spoiler here. I would go category 8 anytime over category 9.

Love being higher up on the ship, it is smoother sailing, no vibration no noise at all.

Thanks Joanna and everyone else for the info and opinions!!
They have been very helpful!

Anyone else want to weigh in on this?

Terri

THis is totally only "my opinion"

I always go with the cheapest cabin in the category I want...The only difference is location, and the cruise staff says, the lower you are, the less you feel..

Personally I have stayed on decks 2, 6, and 7, and on deck 2 we did feel the least amount of any kind of motion....

Deck 6 and 7 I loved as well, but my feet are good, and I go to the deck 7 aft no matter where I am..

I have to agree with the rooms listed above being the best choices on deck2..As there are MANY noisy ones..Just to be safe, TRY to nab one of these, if that is your choice..

As someone put it earlier on, I find something, and make the Absolute best of the fact that I am On the ship..

ENJOY

I think we have pretty much decided to go Cat 9/Deck 2 and save the money. :flower:

I went through a bunch of old posts and did searches by specific room numbers and made a list of recommended rooms and those to avoid, so we will shoot for those when making a reservation!

We have stayed in aft rooms for the previous two cruises we have been on and have an aft balcony  on the Caribbean Princess coming up in November. We like to be toward the aft end of the ship anyway!

Thanks!
Terri

The category 8 cabins are located forward on the decks. So you would be paying $500 more for more motion and an increased risk of sea sickness.
So- it's not worth it in my opinion :badpc:

But I'll just weigh in for the sake of those who may read this thread on a future search. I'll be another spoiler, we've always been in Cat. 8's, we like the location, have never had any motion sickness in an 8 (but did the one time we got upgraded to a 5), and like the fast access to deck 9 (or deck 10 where DS shoots baskets much of the day), as well as the easy access to deck 5 for the lab, and down to 4 and 3 for meals. since our life on the ship is between decks 3--10, we find deck 7 (we've always been on 7 although 8's are also on 5 and 6) central, and love the view of the ocean, and never had to worry about noise from above. Also, not much traffic down the short corridor at the front of the ship.

That said, many just rave about the 9's, as the majority of the respondents to this thread have. I would not want to be under something lively or on deck 1 with the smaller windows, but otherwise it is the same stateroom and ANY stateroom on DCL means you are enjoying a Disney cruise!!

One of the big things for us is the cost of having to have 2 rooms since we have 3 children.

If we only needed one stateroom, we would most likely look at a cat. 8 or higher. That extra room makes a huge difference since you have to pay full price for the first 2 people in the room. (Still cheaper than the cat. 4 room, though!).

We were in 2068 and loved it. I thoiught the noise level was low and we felt no movement
