Has anyone ever stayed in a Cat 3 stateroom? My famiy and I are going on a cruise in September and it will be our first time staying in a Cat. 3 room. Can anyone tell me about the concierge service? I've also heard that in the terminal concierge guests get priority boarding and a seperate waiting area, is this true? Thanks for your help.

Concierge services are great!!! Only way to go :cool1: Yes, you get to board before anyone else in the que line. They will board handicapped first and then all concierge guests. You will be directed to a concierge briefing where you can set up spa ressies, Palo ressies etc. You will be able to book your kids (if you have any) into the clubs etc. We always take a list with us of what we want to have done for us.

Hope this helps...if you have any other questions..pm me and I'll do my best :goodvibes

Hugs,

What other benefits does the Conceige have with Cat. 3. We will be celebrating our 20th anniversary - Nov. 2006, and I've got us booked for Disney Wonder - 3 day trip. We've never been on a cruise & we're excited, or at least I am, DH doesn't show alot emotions.

If you have any specific questions, I'll do my best to answer them for you. (you can pm me if you would like, or I'll answer them here)

First off, a little information on room location. If possible, get a mid-ship category 3 stateroom. They are set up slightly different than the standard category 3's and offer a better overall layout. For instance, in the mid-ship's, the murphy bed is in the living room, not the master bedroom and the verandah is triple length instead of double. We've had both styles, but really prefer the mid-ship.

Your room will come with 2 full bathrooms. The first is in the entryway of your stateroom. Across from that is a full size closet. You then walk into the combination living room/dining room. There is a pull out sofa and 2 easy chairs. The entertainment center contains a tv, vcr and cd player. Music and videos are available for your use from the concierge staff. There is a dining room table with four chairs. I mentioned having the murphy bed in the living room of the mid-ship and there are 2 balcony doors leading out to your verandah. In the standards, there is 1 balcony door off the living room. Sliding doors separate the living space from the master bedroom (murphy bed in here for all standards), second TV, bureau space and another balcony door. Off this room is a vanity area and walk in closet. You then move into the bathroom area with double sinks and whirlpool bathtub. A little further in, is the toilet and shower.

Concierge benefits include contacting the dining manager before you cruise to request your Palo's dinner reservation and also a dining rotation request if you have one. When you arrive at port, there is a check-in line for concierge guests and you'll receive a gold room key. A CM will escort you to the couch area to await boarding. Once boarding begins, guests needing assistance go first, then concierge, then general boarding. Once you do get on board, you are invited to a concierge meet & greet. You'll be introduced to your team for the cruise and they'll assist you with any additional dining requirements you might have, spa appointments, tours, wine tasting, last minute excursions and a representative from the kids club will be there if you have any children to be registered. All this is done while you relax, sip a cool drink and look out over the ocean.

Once you arrive in your stateroom, you'll probably receive a gift of some assorted sodas, water and a fruit basket. Gifts are delivered to your room daily and can consist of cookies, canapes, fruit, pastries, coloring books, arcade cards for the kids. Also, you'll receive a daily call or a member of the concierge team will stop by your stateroom to see if there's anything that you need assistance with. Concierge guests can order full breakfasts from in room dining, as well as choices from all the restaurants.

At some point during your cruise, the staff will invite you to another get together. They offer a drink of the day as well as little finger foods to nibble on. It's just another chance to make sure all is going well and that you're not in need of anything.

On the last full day of your cruise, they will stop by with your bill. This gives you plenty of time to review your charges and clear up any issues. We've also received some very nice lithographs as a thank you gift.

Because there are only 22 suites on board, you truly get personalized service. You might even notice in your room package, that they've gone ahead and made some personalized stationary for you.

How far in advance do you call the dining manager to request the Palo reservation? Will she also make reservations for you for the Palo Brunch and/or High Tea if you want those as well?

We have a midship Cat 3 booked for the 10/15/05 Eastern Magic cruise...I'm really excited about it!

Sam, I don't know if there's a specific time period to call, but I did it at about the 30 day mark. For the life of me I can't remember if she also took care of the brunch booking, just ask when you call. If she didn't do it for us, we had absolutely no problem getting it at the concierge meet & greet.

The mid-ship category 3 is so nice. Out on our verandah, we had 4 chairs, 2 tables and a lounge chair. It was so relaxing and just beautiful.

Would these suites comfortably fit 5 people? What is the sleeping arrangement arranged like? We have a 7,5 and 2 year olds and I am nervous about them being in another room with the balcony...

There is a master bedroom and unless you have a mid-ship category 3, the murphy pull down bed will be located in here also. In the living room, the couch opens up to comfortably fit 2 adults. The door between the living room and master bedroom can be left open. As for the balcony doors, they can be locked. There was plenty of room for my family of 5 (mom, dad, DD18, DS14 and DD8).

I would like to see the answer to this also.
Our only other options to get a little more "room" is to book a Cat 5,6,7 with a balcony and then a inside stateroom across the hall. I was thinking about the adjoining with a balcony in both rooms, but just don't feel safe enough with the kids having the own balcony, even if the rooms connected. Mine are 11,7 and 3 yrs. Even booking across the hall worries me some, but I figure my mature DD11 will be in their with them, plus I'd bring a baby monitor.
The CAT 3 would be sooo nice though :goodvibes

We are booked in the mid ship cabin 8532 for the May repo cruise to California. Can't say how excited we are. Thanks for all of the information Tammi..helps us understand what we are in for.

We called Debbie (Dining) about 4 months prior to our cruise. We were able to get within 30 minutes of the times we requested. She only has a small block of times to work with. If that's important to you, call early. Even at 4 months out, some times had already been taken.

Also, I have a photo album with pictures of a mid-ship Cat 3. If anyone wants to see them, pm your regular e-mail address to me and I'll send you the link.

Hate to make the decision more complicated, but for those of you worried about your children being in a room alone with access to a balcony, you'll have the same issue with a suite - they have a door to the balcony from the bedroom, and another from the living room, so it is exactly the same as having two connecting rooms with the door propped open between them. I can say that I've cruised with a feisty 3-year old, and then a 5 and 2 year old, and not once have they successfully gotten the door open. The lock is VERY high and the door is heavy enough that my mom couldn't slide it open without my dad's help, so either choice will probably be OK for you.

What kind of lock is it? Like a deadbolt? Slider? Travelling with a 11,7, and 3. Not worried about the 11 yr, but thinking the 7 yr old could open it.

The 7 year old would have a hard time opening the door to the verandah. The lock is at the top of the door and it has to be turned and pulled to unlock it. It's a bugger for an adult to do. I stressed over the verandah door too and it wasn't an issue in the end. Also, if you are in a cat 3, if a kid opens the door in the living area I think it would wake you up. The doors not very quiet when opening and then theres the sound of the waves breaking outside. I wouldn't worry too much.

Um, I am A LOT older than 7 and I had a tough time opening that door! :)

Wow! Thanks for the information. I didn't realize you could call that far ahead. (I would have guessed the limit would be about 90 days.) I'm about 5 and-a-half months away right now...It sounds like I shouldn't wait too much longer if I want a good choice of times.
