cat pee question

My cat peed on a white linen suit that I had waiting to be dry cleaned. The suit was sitting in the basement on one of our car seats that we don't use. I have no idea how long ago he did it but I threw the suit away and want to throw the car seat out as well. The smell is stifiling and I thought I read somewhere that you cannot get rid of cat urine smell. I put the car seat to be thrown away but DH says we should just wash it. I can just imagine how it will make the car smell on a hot day!

Is it possible to get rid of the odor and if so how?

I've had good luck with Nature's Miracle.

In the cleaning supplies aisle of Wallyworld or similar stores, you can find an odor remover called "kids and pets" or something similar. It's usually on the bottom shelf and comes in a white bottle with blue writing (I think). It works great!

Mimi Q's right, Nature's Miracle is very good. Be sure to get the kind specifically for cats, the general one didn't work as well. One of my cats urinated on the closet floor and the living room floor, she kept going back no matter what I did. Finally I tried Nature's Miracle and haven't had any problems since then with odor or with the cat re-visiting the area. Petsmart has it.

There is a product that someone on the DIS recommended, called Zero Odor. I have been very happy with it.

Our cat peed down our vent for the central heat, so when then heat came on, the smell of baking cat pee wafted through our house. There are no words for how disgusting it was. NO words at all

You could try rinsing it with vinegar and then setting an open bowl of vinegar near it. My dad was a chemist and said there was some kind of chemical reaction.
