I have two cats, have had them for 2+ years.
One of them, the youngest one has recently started peeing on the carpet upstairs.
Funny thing is, he waits until you are up there and then he just squats and pees. Always in the same hallway. Then he tries to bury it....in the carpet! LOL!
This has happened 3 times this week and we are worried about him.

Any reason why this would start all of a sudden??? Thanks so much!!!

He may have a UTI.
One of our cats started peeing in random places because of it so you could have him checked out for that.

There are physical reasons cats do this and three of our cats had this problem. They get kitty bladder infections so they piddle anywhere and everywhere.

The other problem that cats have is a psychological one. Your cat might be trying to send you a message of some sort.....expressing angst about something or maybe just trying to be the leader of the pack! LOL

We've had many cats over the years and this is the biggest reason we won't have them again. I don't like the smell and it is quite impossible to get rid of.

Our kitty pees right outside the bathroom door where his litter box is on the floor if we don't scoop the litter every day. He won't go in if there is poop in there.

Hi Kamy!

Has kitty been fixed? Before my Max was fixed he started doing the exact same thing out of the blue when he was a year or so old. It happened a couple of times and then off to the vet he went to get snipped, never had a problem after that.

Sure hope kitty is ok, keep us posted.

Hey Debbi!!!

Yeah. Kitty is fixed. His name is Little Man. He was fixed when he was young, right when we adopted him from the shelter.

Maybe he has a UTI. I will call the vet.

You may want to try a different type/brand of litter. Some litter can be very coarse/large grains that can irritate cat's paws. If Little Man is declawed, you might want to use a fine grain litter. Also, some cats may not like scented litters -- they may use it for awhile and then decide not to use it.

My experience has been UTIs is the reason. Although cats can be quite finicky, too. ;)
