I tried to do a search, but couldn't find what I am looking for. A long time ago someone mentioned an electric litter box. It was quite expensive (over $300, I believe) but it was said to be great. I can't find the page that I bookmarked. Does anyone remember what it is called. (It is NOT the Littermaid. I have 5 cats, and didn't find that one worked well for us.)
Thanks!

Oops, sorry I didn't see that you've tried littermaid. Petmate makes one, too, but it's not nearly as expensive as the one you must be thinking of.

We just got 2 kittens, bringing our total to 4 cats. I was thinking of getting an automatic litterbox, but was worried that it would fill up so fast and that I'd go broke on refill cartridges.

What didn't you like about the Littermaid?

Wow, the Litter Robot is pretty neat looking. I'm trying to figure out what is involved with washing it out.

I found that it got jammed a lot, and with 5 cats it filled up very quickly. I also have one guy who insists on going right in the corner when he peed, and it always made a mess when it got jammed, and then I had to clean it. YUK!

Thanks, Denisem, I believe that is it. Anyone have that one?

I just ordered the Litter Robot... I will let you all know what I think after we get it all set up!

We have the Litter Maid -- anyone want to buy it off us? :teeth: It's really more trouble than it is worth.

By the way, if your cat is pooping colored marbles, you've got bigger problems than needing an automated litterbox. :)

IMHO, with five cats, you need more than one litter box no matter what kind it is or you will be cleaning it out two to three times a day. I had two boxes with three cats.
Actually, I had three but one was in another location in the house for the old cat. Now I have one cat with sterile cistitis and have two boxes because she often thinks she has to go quickly.

The rule-of-thumb is one litter box per cat. We just added a second for our two cats, though we've not had major problems with one up until now.

Great for one cat, sort of sucky for 2. Gets jammed. We sold ours and moved to the disposable littler box.

:paw: :paw: It looks great but I am afraid :paw: it would freak my cat out so I have the old fashioned litter box. :paw:

What's a disposable litter box? Never saw one.

Happen to have a new one in the bathroom. It is made by Cat's Pride. It's a clay litter in a disposable pan that you can put in the garbage. I scoop it once a day and toss it once every four days or so (when we just had one cat it would last a week).

I have the litter robot and I've posted about it before. It works great! I have had it for over a year now and never had a problem. Yes, it is expensive, but so worth it. I just put a small plastic garbage bag in the collection tray and just change out the bag twice a week. About twice a year I take the "globe" part of the litter robot outside and clean it out using the hose. So easy!

How many cats do you have? I'm wondering how often I'd have to change the tray with 4 cats and 2 litterboxes.

Oops... I forgot to make myself clear...we have three litterboxes, not just one. This new Litterrobot will be for the upstairs, and if we love it (and I expect we will) then we will purchase another one for downstairs. I have a cat that won't go in a dirty box, so 3 boxes is mandatory. I don't know where to put another one, but 3 works fine for my boys.

I have one ginormous cat and a kitten. The monster cat hardly ever needed a scoop between cleanings. The kitten poops more than any animal I have ever shared my home with! She also steals humand food, something no cat of mine has ever stooped to. She is a Maine Coon and I wonder if that is the reason. SHe is adorable but she's a pig! Lol

I would say with 4 you are better off not using disposables.

I only have one cat. When some friends (with their cat) stayed with us for about two weeks after the hurricane, we had to change the bag about every other day. So I would think if you have 4 cats, you would have to change it every day, or get two of them and change each one every other day. But it really is so easy even if you have to change the bag every day...lift bag out, put new bag in. I'll never scoop again!

Our two kittens are the king and queen of poop! (Geez, I really hope the tag fairy is NOT reading this thread! LOL) I can't believe how often they go and how much it reeks. :faint: And they will also steal food. We're vegetarian so it's not as if we have roast beef sitting around for them to take. :rotfl: One day they got my son's piece of waffle. They are pigs, too!
