We do not think that the kittens are his. She has a black kitten and three orange ones and there was an orange cat around at the time she got pregnant. So we do not think they are the deaf cats kittens.
Color doesn't matter- recessive genes can/will come into play determining the kittens color.

Here is a good source for help with spay/neutering.

http://www.lovethatcat.com/spayneuter.html

Also, call local rescue organizations to ask them if they can help with the cost as well as with finding homes for the cats you do not want to keep. It is absolutely necessary to have your animals spayed and neutered. There are plenty of homeless cats out there needing homes without breeding more.

There is no quick solution to this - you need to separate them. You are risking serious injuries to one or both if you do not. Put momma and her babies in your bedroom and keep the door closed. Or vice versa.

edited to add: The babies MUST be at least 10 weeks old to be properly socialized and ready to leave their mother and litter mates. Please do not try to separate them before this as it will lead to all kinds of behavioral problems.

Thanks for the link. That site is very informative but again there is no location near me that offers help with getting the cats spayed.

I think from reading that I will only keep the male deaf cat and maybe one other male cat. I will get them spayed but it will take time to save the money for that.

For the time being I will keep them seperated and will call a vet to see when I can separate the mom and babies since I really have not gotten any answers here (accept for 8 weeks). I will not wait till they are eight weeks as that is three more weeks. It is not fair to either of the two cats or to my family to try and keep them seperated. If he is in the house at all she runs around howling and it is not fair to keep him locked in the garage away from everyone. he is a very loving cat and wants to be near us.

Thanks to all of you who answered. I guess I should have just called the vet to begin with.

people say 8 weeks, but I have always adopted kittens and let them go at 6 weeks. I think that is when they are the cutest and most likely to be adopted. My cats have always been fine when I got them at that age....

Are you serious? 8 weeks is the youngest that they can be weaned from their mother. It is not fair to those babies to separate them from their mother. When you decided to breed your female for kittens, you took on a responsibility to those animals. Do not abandon it now that it feels too hard.

The cats will do fine being confined to a one room for a few weeks. You can take turns switching them around if you like.

I think you just want the easy way out. You were given answers as well as resources to try. You cannot tell me you contacted all those resources in this amount of time.

I'm going to obey the old addage, If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all..And I'm going to hug my kitties

6 weeks is too young.

Again I do appreciate the advice but telling me to get them fixed is just not an option.
Then you need to keep them separated until you can find them homes with people who can afford their basic care.

Everyone else is right, she is attacking him because he is a threat to her and the kittens.

If you cannot afford to get these two neutered, you cannot afford to keep any of them.

The kittens need to be with the mother cat until they are 10-12 weeks old.
My female cat getting pregnant was not a mistake. We wanted kittens and I had planned to find them good homes but now that this is going on I will probably be forced to take the ones we don't keep to the pound. BECAUSE we want to keep the deaf cat in the house and not in the garage.
Any non-pedigreed cat being bred by someone because they 'wanted kittens' is an irresponsible mistake. Are you aware of how many cats their are in shelters across the country because people 'wanted kittens' and/or "couldn't afford" to get them neutered?

I'm sorry, I have to blunt about this issue. It is too important. These are living breathing animals, not toys. PLEASE find find a non-kill shelter (or suitable homes) for ALL of the cats in your possession.
It is not fair to either of the two cats or to my family to try and keep them seperated.
It's not only fair, it is the humane thing to do.

Most likely she is attacking him because he has been away for a few days. Tom's will kill kittens - just like lions do in the wild - to make the female go into heat sooner so he can get kittens with his genes. (And I am not saying that these are not his kittens - I don't even know if he would know if they were his or not.)

For all we know, there may be some signal they give to each other that we don't understand that causes her to freak like that.

Just keep them separated until you can give the kittens and momma kitty away. Could be that after the kittens are gone, they could even be friends. You have already made arrangements with friends to give away the momma and kitties that you don't want to keep so you know the current situation isn't permanent.

We brought in a kitten when we had one male cat - kitten was male also - and he took care of the baby like it was his own. They were close their whole lives. But there wasn't a female involved or around.

In this amount of time NO. But I have contacted all the vets and the humane society not once but three times in the this past year to try and find some help with getting the female and male spayed. The list that was in the link above for places in my state that offer help with spaying are no where near where I live.

It may seem like I am trying to take the easy way out and maybe I am but that is my decision to make.

I'm just not understanding something here. You could not afford to have the two cats spayed/neutered, yet you wanted the female to produce offspring? You state that you wanted kittens. Why, since you couldn't afford the first two?

I don't get this. I must be misunderstanding.

You know what? Tell me what town/state you live in and I will be happy to make some calls for you regarding spay/neutering as well as possible finding someone else to foster the momma and the babies so they do not have to be separated too soon.

Then expect to take heat for such an irresponsible action.

You haven't been able to afford the most basic care of these two cats for a YEAR(?!) and the next logical step was to introduce MORE cats you cannot afford into the world???? (a litter of kittens)

This has to be one of the most irresponsible things I have heard in a long time. :confused3 :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :guilty: :guilty: :guilty: :guilty:

I understand that she probably does perceive him as a threat but when it is just him and the kittens he does not try to harm them. He is very loving to them and always has been.

She never had a problem with him for the first four weeks of their lives.

I will keep them separated for now. I will get rid of the mom and kittens as early as the vet tells me is feasible. I will not do anything that would be bad for the cats. I love cats and I love these cats so please try to stop judging me and acting like I am a bad person because of a bunch of cats.

If I did not love them I would not have them. Sure I cannot afford to get them fixed right now but as far as that goes they do not have to be fixed. That is a choise a person makes and YES I agree it is better to have them fixed but just because I cannot afford it right now does not mean I love them any less.

Whoa - back off! The lady - fellow disser - asked for help. If this is the most irresponsible thing you have heard of in a long time you must be living under a log. Do just enjoy throwing sand at people? Let's play nice

I repeat the offer.

ETA: Send the information in a PM if you are uncomfortable with posting it.

You are right. They came here for help.

However, I find it very telling that the poster is dismissive of the advice and is flat out ignoring the offer of help.

You know now I see how irresponsible it was to let her have the kittens. But it is done now.

I planned to find the kittens a good home but did not anticipate the problem with the two adult cats. I still plan to try and find a home for them just sooner than I thought.

I am furnishing their BASIC NEEDS. It is nice to have them fixed but it is not something a cat has to HAVE.

I just got of the phone with a local vet and he said kittens that are eating well can be seperated from their mom at 5-6 weeks.

He also told me again that there is no one in our area that offers any help with getting cats spayed and that none of the vets he knows of will do it at a discounted rate.

The vet also said that she perceives him as a threat now and to keep them seperated. He said there is no way of knowing why she is acting like she is but if I have a home for her then it is best to let her go to it than to torture her and him like this.

I do not need anyone to call around for me as I have done this several times in the past trying to get them spayed.

Maybe it was selfish of me to want a cat when I eould not afford to get it spayed. But we got the first two when they were nine weeks old and I did not expect our money situation to get as bad as it has. I fully intended to have them spayed when they were old enough so again please stop judging me.

I did not realize people on here were so sefl rightous. I ask for advice not critisism.

I am not dismissing the advice or ignoring the offer of help.

I went to the site and read the information. I do not need help calling around. I have a phone and have called around.

See above post I just spoke to a local vet about this situation.

I appreciate all the advice I have received. I do not however appreciate being judged a bad person because I did not and cannot afford to have my cats spayed.

Would you prefer I not feed my kids for a week so I can spay a cat. Yes I should have thought of this before hand but what is done is done and I have learned from my mistake. Our money situtation went down hill after we got the two cats. The kittens I never planned to have spayed I planned to find them a good home and let their owner take care of that.

Maybe. But did he say he recommended it? I doubt it. And if he did, he is not a very good animal advocate.

I do not need anyone to call around for me as I have done this several times in the past trying to get them spayed.

You apparently do because there are more resources other than the pound and local vets. I have been working with a bunch of different rescue organizations because I too have a momma and her litter in my home as we speak now. (Mine was a rescue.) I may have a source of help for you.

Why would you rather separate those babies too soon than accept my offer?

I did not realize people on here were so sefl rightous. I ask for advice not critisism.

And you were given lots of advice as well as sincere offers of help. You apparently were looking for something else. So, do not come on here calling the people that tried to help self righteous.
