Cat hair vs. northface jacket

DS got a northface denali for Christmas. These are fairly expensive but it is a nice jacket and he loves it. It is black. We have 3 dogs and 2 cats. The dogs and one cat are really not a problem. It is the one cat that is an indoor cat. The jacket is a cat hair magnet. Last night I used the lint roller all over the jacket, inside and out. Hung the jacket up for DS while he was getting ready and 10 minutes later it has more cat hair on it. Now I vacuum at least once a week (we have tile throughout the house), dust, sweep, etc. We have other fleece jackets and none of them have this big a problem. One thing I remember on the description of the jacket was it was made from recycled material. DH's northface fleece is not of recycled material and does not have this big a problem. I am thinking now it is something to do with the fabric, it seems to create static which collects the cat hair. I am now trying to brush all the animals at least once a week and even took a wet rag and "wiped" the cat down with it. Oh yeah I even used the lint roller directly on the cat which did get more hair off than any of the other things I tried.

Anyone have any suggestions on what to do about this problem? I did wash the jacket twice this afternoon with other things that had no lint problems (no towels or terry cloth anything) with fabric softener and it is in the dryer with dryer sheets.

I wish I had advice ... we have a Newfoundland Puppy who is throwing her puppy coat and growing a her adult coat. Fun. I brush her once a day and do a full grooming once a week. It's the only thing that works.

The BEST brush in the world ... The Furminator. You can get them at PetSmart, Target etc. but I found the best price by far on Amazon. I got the Extra Large one for $20. Works amazing .... can be used on cats or dogs. Check it out ... I was shocked at the amount of fur I can get off the animals daily with this thing.

Rub a dryer sheet over the jacket?

And yes, invest in a Furminator for the cat. A cat shouldn't be having that much hair coming off of him in winter. Get a medium size for the cat. Over 3 THOUSAND positive reviews. This is no piece of junk:

I will definitely check that out. Is there something I can do to the jacket though to try to repel the fur or at least not attract the fur so much? It really is worse than the other fleece jackets we own.

I believe there is a dryer sheet that is supposed to help repel fur. I always forget to check for it at the store.

That being said, I have 3 cats ( one is long haired ) and a Newfoundland. I vaccum pretty much every day-I've found the more you do it, the less chance of it getting overwhelming. I also keep a sticky lint brush in the car, my purse, my laptop bag and at work.

Here's a recent grooming session with the Furminator. She was thoroughly brushed within a week of this picture too!

Sorry no solution, but I wanted to say we are having the same problem!

My other son got a black Northface fleece for Christmas last year and it has never collected dog hair the way this new fleece is. Like you, I've tried everything and the hair really sticks to this fleece.

Do you think we should contact Northface about the problem? I agree that this is much worse than any other fleece!

Now I wish we had gotten him the jacket that is smooth and not fleece...

The Denali is a pretty nice coat, I'd get rid of the cat.

Okay, I'm just kidding :) Get the furminator like the pp suggested, I love mine and do notice a difference in my kitty's shedding. Also maybe you could try some static guard on it so that it doesn't attract the hair so much.

Back in the 80's when Angora sweater were the "rage", the fur would fly into my eyes and hurt like heck with my hard lens contacts.

So, I'd put a few squirts of hairspray on the sweater and it worked fine.

I'm wondering if this solution would work for you too. I'd clean the jacket, give it a few squirts of hairspray (away from any hair) and see how it goes.

It couldn't hurt. :goodvibes

I wish I could get rid of the cat. I don't even like him. I think I will try the hairspray. It couldn't hurt. I tried just wiping it down with the dryer sheets but it left white stuff on the black jacket. I really think it is the fleece on this jacket. I remember reading it was from recycled material. That has to have something to do with it. I will never get this jacket again.

Cat hair wins- every time. Just surrender to the cat- it's all she wants anyway. Give her control of the can opener and you'll all survive!

Keep the jacket in a plastic bag in the closet. Vacuum the closet to make sure there is no more fur, and make sure to keep the door closed.

The Furminator is a great tool. I use one that is a knock off. I found it at Wal Mart. It is called the Fur Buster and works just as well. I get several animals' worht of fur every time I brush Eragon.

Fleece and animals don't mix. I've owned several fleece items, and they seem to be fur magnets. IT seems like the "fuzzy" fleece, the kind that's rough and tends to pill is the absolute worst. I don't own fleece anymore.

I have three Northface jackets & have the exact same problem with the lining eating up cat hairs.
I have 4 cats & I vacuumn everyday but still have loads of hair that inject themselves into clothes.

Do not use the "Furalator" if your cats have a pattern it will make a mess & take the pattern out. I do trap & release on ferals & very involved in cats with adoption. I am loaded with fur on my jackets & pants. even my socks it is terrible. I do use the lint roller-tape-wet washclothes. Nothing works well.
The dryer tissue or sheets are full of chemicals so if you want to use get the Go Green Products.
I think dampness is the best way to remove or lessen the hair issue. I sometimes just give up & send jackets to cleaners for a clean few wears.
