Way off topic, I know, but that's why I love this board!!!

I just opened a new bag of my usual cat food and it is now shaped in tiny round balls - this is no good for my elderly cat because he swallows it whole and then vomits it back up whole. So I need to find another brand. Does anyone out there have cat food that has shapes big enough that the cat has to chew it before swallowing - this last stuff was shaped like a big X. I even checked my barn cat food and it is also comprised of tiny morsels. I usually feed my indoor cats high end food but even if I can find a large morsel grocery store brand, I can at least mix it with their current food in hopes that it will make them chew it. Any recommendations?

Are you opposed to adding water to the food. You could put a bit of warm water on it making it soft and easier to swallow. I have a young cat and when he throws up his food, which is about once every couple of weeks, it all looks solid and unchewed. He eats a small hard food in x shapes too. It's Royal Canin so good for him but I'm not sure why he can't keep it down sometimes. He's fussy and will eat nothing else.

Innova has bigger food pieces....we just switched from Innova to Fromm to get smaller pieces.:) At Global foods they usually will let you try different foods and if your cat does not like it you can return it for a full refund even if opened.....as long as half the bag is not gone.

That could be a slight hairball issue or even just that he's eating too fast -- we had a cat that did that until we started leaving the food down all the time.

Our cats are on the good old standby purina cat chow right now -- they're 16 and were starting to get thin from the higher end food (except for kitten food it's lower in calories) so this was suggested for them, in combination with canned kitten food.

The cat chow is a mixture of X's and flat hearts.
