I have a detached house with a single story exension at the back of my house. I am thinking of building a cat enclosure in the L shaped bit of my house for my three cats (currently house cats). Has anyone else done this I can't just let my tabby cat she was chucked out when she got pregnant and really wants to go out but the big outdoors frightens her so a cat pen would be a good alternative. Also they wouldn't bother anyone else by messing in their gardens. It would be 3 metres by 3 metres and roofed to prevent escapes.

You can buy pre-made cat pens/runs of various sizes. We have a small one in our back garden for our two pedigrees which we got from the CPL and are house cats. Apart from being pedigrees, we couldn't let Harry out as he is deaf. They are a great idea.

I would suggest you look at some of the pre-made cat pens for a design you like and then speak to a local handy man to see if they could build you one to fit on your house - it would probably work out much cheaper and you would have the design you wanted.

It would give you the security of knowing your cats are safe but can still enjoy being outdoors. You could put in it various platforms/bedding etc. The family kennels at our local cattery even have tree stumps in. Just make sure that if the position is in full sun that you have plenty of shade available.

I think it is a great idea, I was paraniod about my cats going out in the end. I work in a vets and it scares me all the things that can and does happen to them, If I had another cat i would not let it out, too scary:scared1:
The lady accross from me does cat shelter and has a run for all the no rehomable cats, she has tree trunks and all kinds of nice things for them to play with.
Go for it.
