On our first cruise in August, we were upgraded from a cat.9 to a cat.5. Now we can not sail without a verandah. We are looking to go again next year. What is the difference between a cat.5 and a cat.6? Why are the cat.6 rooms a little cheaper? Also, should I pay for a cat.9 again and if I dont get upgraded for free, pay for the upgrade on the ship? What are the chances of the ship being sold out on the day we sail?

The cat. 6 and cat. 5 are the same size cabin, the difference is that the cat. 5 is on a higher deck, that's why you pay the extra $$.

If you want a certain cabin or category, your chances of getting it are better if you book it when you make your ressies. I wouldn't wait until sail away day, and expect to find a higher category available. It could happen, but I wouldn't want to take the chance myself.

Andy is so right. If you can't cruise without a veranda (I know how you feel), I would book a veranda.

Your chances of a free upgrade are slim. As for paying for one at the port, depending on when you sail there may not be any veranda cabins left. In addition, if you are getting the EBS discount, there is no guarentee that the "upgrade charge" to a veranda at the port will be cheaper. I upgraded once at the port and I paid full price for the upgrade.
