Hi everyone,
I got a kitten about two week ago.
He's about eight weeks now.
He has a problem using his litterbox, and he won't use it.
I have been trying to train him to use it on his own.
About three times in the last two weeks he has gone on his own, the other times he just went on the rug.
Problem, my mom's been getting really mad about this because now our house smells horrible. He's been leaving "surprises" around the house, and we can't find them.
There's nothing wrong with his litterbox, the litter is fresh.
And it's very big.
We had decided to put his litterbox next to his food tray, so he knows where it is at.
Any advice on training him to use his litterbox?

Kittens usually train themselves to use the litter box. We used to keep our cat in one of our bathrooms. We kept him there at night and we shut the door. I would recommend shutting the door if possible because I think that that is how they train themselves. If you can't shut the door then I guess just keep trying, he might eventually get it.

My cats have always just...trained themselves. Maybe it's a bladder problem? Maybe you should get your cat checked out by a vet.

oh. well, my old cat toonces was old an incontinent. our living room rug was white and COVERED with brown and yellow spots. but... the cat will train himself.

my cat buddy has downs syndrom. and he know how to use the box, but m,isses. it gets annoying a lot of the time. i see him and have to "steer" him in.

but... the cat will soon learn. right now i am training my cat, lenard to use the toilet.

my kitten had issues too...

we made a littler litter box becasue the big one was actualy too big
and they didnt' like the top. So while they were training we used a cardboard box cut really low...that helped

we also picked them up when we caught them in the act and sat them in there box.

One of my cats just ended up sleeping in htere and that helped. though left her really smelly and my older cat mad when she needed to go and use the litter box

I thought cats trained themselves....

It's dogs that have that problem.
... Maybe there's something this cat isn't telling you?

Haha jk jk. It's probably just still figuring life out?

Well for my kitten when he was that old, we were not allowed to use actually litter, because it could hurt him, because he recently got his operation, so we used shredded up paper, and that worked fine. After a week or so we switched to regular litter and everything was fine. Maybe you should consider using shedded up paper for a bit, because maybe it hurts him to go in the litter box. :confused3

EDIT: What I mean is, try shedding paper. Then dump out ALL the cat litter in the box. Thenput the shedded paper in the litter box.

Hope this helps. [:

Thanks soo much for the advice guys,
I am going to take him to the vet once I get the chance.
Just to make sure, he doesn't have a bladder problem.
