Hi All: We are looking into planning a sea/land trip. We will have a 6 and 8 year old boy with us. We are going to use our DVC points for a 4-night cruise.

We are looking at a deluxe stateroom that sleeps 4. Not sure if we should choose the deluxe stateroom with oceanview (cat 9) or inside stateroom (cat 10). Who has been in either room? Would love to know what your take on either room. Any details you can share would be great!

Any specific rooms we should request or stay away from? Help!!!!

Thank you!

We are going in Nov. on our 3rd DC and have always stayed in a Cat. 9 and we are a family of 3. We love the Cat. 9, plenty of room for the amount of time you are in there.

There are some 9s, that have port holes, but there are only 6 of them on deck 5. So, unless you book really early they go fast.

Everyone's tastes are so different its hard to say. Most say they could care less about a window, its either a inside or a balcony for them, but I like to see out.

I would say it depends on the price and how much price different there is between the categories. If its more than $100 pp, I probably wouldnt do it.

I'm assuming that you mean 10's with portholes??? I have a 9 and it def has a porthole in it as do all of the 9's (from what I thought??) I know there are the secret porthole cabins and those are classified as 10's but do have obstructed views.

We always stay in cat. 9's. I can't live without a window, but that's just me. Our first cruise on Carnival, we had an inside cabin and I hated it.

All cat. 9's have portholes, however the ones on deck 1 have two small portholes and the ones on deck 2 have one large (about 3 ft diameter). BTW, decks 1 and 2 are the only decks that have cat. 9's.

Category9 on Deck 2 (oops, that's an obstructed view room, picture it without the obstruction)

Barb ~ hope you don't mind me borrowing your pictures.

I stayed in cabin 2070 category 9 ocean view and will ask for it again..It was midship (less motion) and near the elevator. I used points on my trip too. I am a bit claustrophobic so want a window..it was lovely looking out, we even saw dolphins as we were leaving port!

We will be in 2070 in less than 2 weeks! This is the 1st time in a category 9, we have always been in 6. I'm concerned about not having the veranda.

I have stayed in Cat 10, Cat 9 and Cat 6. Never did miss the veranda. Just spent my time on deck 9 and ten.

The advantage of cat 9 is the window. It allows you to see outside and to check the time of day or the weather. This has become my preference.

However in at Cat 10 you can have the room dark to sleep any time of day. You need to turn on the TV to check the weather or outside tempature. There really is no difference between the Cat 10 and a 9 outside of a window. I hope this info helps!!

Just as an FYI the cat 9 and 10s are the same sized room. Actually cats 5-10 are the same size interior room. I prefer the cat 10 set up because the bed is against the far end of the room and the living area with couch and TV are in the front as you walk past the closet. In the 5-9s you have to walk around the bed where there is a narrow walkway to get to the couch, dresser, TV.

I am so confused about this one.... So the rooms are the same except for the big difference with a window or no window. I don't like the idea of not being able to see outside/ time of day/ weather with an inside room. BUT the extra points needed for an ocean view means one day less on land.

4 nights in inside stateroom and 4 nights on land OR
4 nights in ocean view and 3 nights on land

DH wants 4 and 4.... I think I would prefer 4 and 3 with the view.

What to do?

I guess you will just have to book so far in advance you can get a secret porthole cabin and both get what you want?

We'll be staying here too on our cruise! Glad to hear a good report! :thumbsup2

Okay, I looked at a chart of the rooms on the offical website. Are the secret portholes on level 5? 5020,5022,5024,5520,5522,5524??

Has anyone stayed on this level? How is the motion??

Yup, those are the ones.

Iv never minded being foreward, but thats me and these cabins are not all the way foreward. Someone on my roll call has 2 of the connecting cabins. ( 5522 & 5524 and 5022 & 5024 are adjoiners).
