I just went to book online for Cat 4 Nov 5/05, and it came up GTY instead of letting me pick my room. This made me nervous. I don't think they would upgrade from a 4 to a 3, because there are just not enough Cat 3's. So do you think that mean that maybe there is just a few rooms left full forward? I'm thinking I should change to Cat 5 where I can still choose a nice mid-to-aft starboard room (where I'm hoping for) Anyone run into this before? Any suggestions?

:confused3

I don't think that you could narrow down the locations of the remainding cat 4's to just being forward. But I suppose that is a risk you'd take if you booked the cat 4 gty...but then again you could be upgraded to a 3 or better..I have heard of people being upgraded to those levels...even without booking GTY...so it is possable. Myself I think it's a risk I'd take. We had a cat 8 on Deck 7 almost as far forward as you can get (7012)...and LOVED it...it was great location. We didn't notice any more movement in our stateroom than anywhere else on the ship. I would think that being aft you'd get more movement and sways than being forward and breaking through all the waves...

We'll be in 7010 and was concerned about the movement. Still hoping for a frr upgrade.

I'd say 7010 is a great location...if you asked me. We liked the area so much we rebooked for 7004 and 7006 for this fall. We had a nice sway that would rock up to sleep at night...but by no means alot of movement. Not only that...but your fairly close to the forward elevators...and at the end of the hall so you have very little hall travel...and little noise. If you notice from one of the ship layouts that room is located in a hallway that leads nowhere...so you don't have stray cruisers walking by.

What is GTY? I have seen this abbreviation many times and wondered what it means.

GTY means guarantee. If DCL has overbooked a particular stateroom category and someone wants to book that category DCL will put them in a GTY status meaning DCL cannot assign them a specific stateroom at the time of booking, when it comes time to assign cabins that person would get at least that category they booked at GTY status or even better if no cabins opened up in the category they wanted. They would never be moved down a category. So, it is possible you would get upgraded to a higher category if no cabins opened up in the category you booked at.

People very often cancel as final payment nears so many cabins do open up....so, you usually find out your stateroom number when you get your documents....though sometimes it is sooner or sometimes it is not until you get to the port.

Thanks Scrapperjill I will stay with GTY & hope for the best. I didn't know there might be a chance of upgrade at that level.

This will be our first cruise but I've been reading the boards for awhile now & thanks to all the great posts here and amazing trip reports sometimes I forget & think I'm an experience cruiser :earboy2:
