Hello all! (Kind of Long...sorry)

We will be flying to the USA again this summer to get away from the heat of Doha and visit all of our family. We are considering a short vacation in Europe along the way. We have visited London 3 times, really enjoyed it, but are ready to try another location.

When we went the first time we visited Warwick Castle. I know it gets some bad reviews, but I really liked it. The kids were not with us on that trip. This past summer we toured Windsor Castle. It was great, but did not have the "old" castle feel of Warwick castle. I liked the dungeons, the small winding stairs, the overall small, cramped spaces, etc. I really regret not taking the kids there.

So...this summer we are thinking of maybe Ireland or Scotland. We are open to any suggestions! Is there a fantastic castle similar to Warwick castle that we should see, or should we make a trip to Warwick on our way to somewhere else??

Thanks for your travel advice!!!

I have to say, for castles you cannot beat Wales!!! My fave is Beaumaris tho' love Conway too... :cloud9:

If you are coming to Scotland then you could visit Edinburgh, Stirling ets. There are loads of Castle trails around Scotland and (just a few ;) ) Whiskey trails as well;) Let us know what you decide, but if you are looking for cool weather, ie cold, come visit us in Bonnie Scotland :goodvibes The sun does come out sometimes.......honest ;)

I love Carnarvan(sp?) and Conway castles in Wales :)

Dover castle is also an interesting castle, an just up the coast are Deal and Walmer castles (one of which is where Wellington stayed).

I've always wanted to go to Leeds castle too (in Kent). It looks so perfect with its moat.

Thanks to all! I will look into all of your recommendations! I really appreciate you sending me into the right direction!

Leeds Castle is stunning - I'd forgotten about that one! Rochester Castle in North Kent and Bodiam Castle in East Sussex are pretty fab too... :thumbsup2
