Anybody been on a recent 7day Eastern itinerary and went to this party? What night was it planned on? I'm trying to plan a dinner at Palo's but don't want to miss the party.

It is usually held in the late afternoon around 4:30 or so....we have gone to it several times and it is nice, but can get very crowded.

In my opinion, you will not miss much if you skip this party. We only attended once and skipped the rest. They have snacks and "free" watered down drinks. The same kind of cheesy watered down drinks they serve at the Captain's reception. I think Disney should be ashamed of the "free" watered down drinks. They should either eliminate them or not water down the drinks. Also, there is a Q and Q session with senior staff members.

It's basically a time to shake hands with the captain and senior officers. He gives the same little talk each time--minor variations. Very rarely a real announcement of something great (of course, he has been authorized to release that info.) The munchies are pretty good, the drinks are not the best.

Since 1/3 of the cruisers are now "frequent flyers", it is a rather large group as opposed to a private party.

If you have early dinner...you can't possibly eat all the food at the reception then at dinner too...if you have late dinner, it is a nice aftenoon snack. You really aren't missing anything if you choose to skip this. It is 4:30 pm usually.

Just my opinion, but I think the reception is pretty nice and we try not to miss it. I figure we're paying a decent price for the trip and anything we can add to it for "free" is worth the effort. Free drinks and good munchies. I also think it is pretty cool that Disney recognizes the loyalty of it's repeat cruisers. I'm also always quite stunned by the number of returnees, espeically since so many people talk about the price of the Disney cruise. It is fun to be recognized for our support of the line.

Go for it and enjoy!

We enjoy it for the free food and drinks as well as being able to speak with the Captain and other repeat cruisers. BUT, I would not be upset if I missed it for a night at Palo. In fact, last cruise I missed it because I was at the Internet Cafe IMing my husband back at home. I wasn't upset about missing it....but is worth going to if you can make time for it.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that Phyllisi believes the drinks are watered down?? :p

Is there a similar party on the 3 day Wonder?

Yes. If memory serves its on the night of CC.

BTW, we had a thrill at the reception on our most recent cruise. We are big fans of the Travel Channel video. . . . we have it on Tivo and watch it about once a month. Well, you can imagine how exciting it was to meet Captain Henry from the Travel Channel show!::yes:: I felt like I was meeting a real celebrity.

I must say, he was very nice. DH, DS and I were sitting close to the entrance, so we were the first or second family he chatted with. He posed with us for a couple of pictures. He was also pretty funny. He called the much-talked about new ship "The Disney Rumor," because that is all it is. Haa-haa.

I also am glad DCL recognizes their loyal patrons with a little something. Although we do have early seating and don't eat much, its nice to be part of the group!
