I am a returning cruiser on DCL, and I know that there is a castaway club party on the ship. Is this party worth going to? I have never heard anything about it.

Thanks,
Jen :earsgirl:

We went to one last year but skipped it this year, we were just too busy. It is a nice gathering though, nice hors de avores (sp) like shrimp and sushi if I recall correctly, free drinks, (mixed and wine as well as shirley temples or fruit punch for the kids) there was an ice sculpture-all in all a nice affair. Would have gone again this year but the timing of it clashed with something we wanted to do-maybe it was formal portraits I don't recall now?

When I went in October, we sat with the other DIS members, and since it doesn't last really long, i thought it worth going for the free drinks and appetizers. Also we heard updates on a possible third ship, new itineraries that were being considered, and i thought that was nice info to hear.

do they still have the party on the shorter cruises?

We had a Castaway Club party on our 4 night cruise (12/15-12/19). The servers gave us a plate of vegetables, a plate of fruit and free drinks. It was definitely NOT like the CC party on the Magic on 9/28 where there was the ice sculpture and buffet table filled with appetizers. But hey, it's just nice to get something "free" - yes, I know - it's in the price ; )

Enjoy!

Yes, but since drinks aren't usually included in the fare, free drinks are still free in my book!

Just got back from the 1/9/03 Wonder cruise and attended the Castaway Club reception on Saturday. It was very nice and we got to meet some of the key personnel (i.e., Cruise Director, Assistant Engineer, etc.). Plus, I was able to bring "guests" (my mom and stepdad) with me and we were treated like royalty!

We have gone to several CC parties on both ships...i think it depends on how many return cruisers there are on the ship as to how big the party is and if there is an ice sculpture....on the 4 day wonder last year the party was very small...no ice sculpture and limited food....this past November 3 day the party was in wavebands...ice sculpture and all types of food....chicken wings, veggie's, shrimp etc...even mini pizza's for the kids...very nice...so i guess you never know...

It's a nice thing to go to, we always do.

They do SERVE you now, they do not do a buffet. They bring along small plates of appetizers and drinks. What's nice is you can also get a good glass of wine instead of the fruity drinks they have ready to serve (I don't drink those), but you have to ask.

It's always nice to hear the captain speak and meet some of the crew. :)
