To use a direct marketing industry term ("fulfillment"), I just wanted to state that unlike some others here, I've had very good experience being welcomed into the Castaway Club.
We sailed on DCL for the first time back in late March of this year. Less than a week after our cruise, I called up DCL to find out what our Castaway Club ID number was, and the CM I spoke to was able to immediately give it to me.
Last Friday, we received a mailing from the Castaway Club which included our member card as well as a survey form with pre-paid response envelope, and a welcome letter from Cathy Crotty at DCL which was very well written.
So, as far as I'm concerned, the Castaway Club has delivered quick and professional new member "fulfillment," as good or better than I've ever gotten from any other cruise line, in fact better than what I've experienced from other areas of Disney (and that's coming from someone whose is both a DVC and Disney Club member).
