Castaway Cay Ice Cream?

My older daughter hasn't forgotten the soft serve cookie dough ice cream that was served on Castaway Cay. I keep trying to tell her not to expect it on the next trip as they change flavors. Am I right?

There was a short thread about this a few weeks ago. The absolute highlight of Castaway Cay for me was that cookie dough ice cream (I REALLY like sweets). We were on the Dream in early February and much to my dismay, the ONLY ice cream they had was the same chocolate and vanilla soft serve they have on the ship. To say I was disappointed was an understatement! DISer's in the thread stated that the cookie dough machines may be gone for good but I don't know if that was confirmed or not.

I was at CC a couple of weeks ago. There is NO choc chip ice cream. There is choc and vanilla AND there is strawberry and banana (which you can get by themselves or as a swirl).
There is one thing CC has that the ship does not: CONES!

Ice cream was near Cookies. Not sure if there are ice cream stations in more than one location on CC. We didn't explore the whole thing

In January we only had chocolate and vanilla on cc. Someone told us that the cookie dough was discontinued..

We went to Castaway in early April. They had the banana and strawberry swirl as well as chocolate and vanilla.

Just back and it was only chocolate,vanilla, strawberry and banana. I did notice that everyone serves themselves, where before they've always had someone running the machines and serving the guests.

The strawberry/banana swirl was very refreshing, but I did miss the cookie dough!

I can't remember for certain but I think I remember someone saying that the chocolate chip cookie dough, due to the chips, clogged the machine.

We had it in Dec 2009 and it was terrific! It won't impact us in 2012 as we don't go to CC on that trip.

We were there twice in April (B2B), the first time we only saw chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and banana. Second time I found the Cm who was refilling the machines and asked him what happened to the cookie dough flavor. He said they are only having the three now and he didn't know why, but that was all they had and all they were told they would have

I was told the chunks in the cookie dough clogged up the new machines, so that is why they no longer have it. I really enjoyed the cookie dough though.

However, I've learned that DCL does not tell the truth in matters of unhappy news. You should have heard the stories we were told when our favorite server was no longer on the ship...and we KNEW they weren't true. We were finally able to run down his "best friend" to get a real answer (that he had been injured and was sent home).

So...a discontinued product--maybe. I do know it was not "peanut safe" for people with allergies to nuts. But if it didn't mess up machines for 12 years, I doubt that it suddenly started in January.

Major sadness--I loved that ice cream.

DCL replaced the ice cream machines on Castaway Cay sometime between August '10 and January '11. The previous machines used large sacks/cartriges. The new machines get the liquid poured in the hopper.

I can believe that the chunks clog up the new machines, but why not run the liquid through a blender to reduce the size of the chunks. I know there are blenders out there that can handle that volume. Have you seen the ones that can turn an ipad into dust.

We were there in late August, 2010 and while they had cookie dough ice cream it was only available in one of the two machines since it had clogged the other one. Apparently it was a constant problem with the new machines, so I'm not surprised to hear they've phased it out.
