Castaway Cay 5K

When it was still being done as an event, you booked in when you're ON the ship. And Yes it was free and yes they gave you a medal at the end. Since Covid they haven't been doing it. You just go and run it on your own if you want.

You get the medal either back on the ship at Guest Services or in a recent thread, someone said there was shop that had them as well.

After you run it, just stop by the bike rental stand and they will give you the medal.

I feel like back in the day they had an age limit for this. If my 3 yr. old and I walk/run the 5K (actually walk, no stroller) would they give both of us a medal or just me since she technically isn’t old enough? It doesn’t matter either way cause I just want to give it to her for doing it…if she does

I've definitely heard of people getting the medals for the little ones. Just don't expect it. And if anything, give her yours. I know I've won the "Winner" mickey head medals they used to give for the Castaway Cay 5K from winning trivia before. So they have lots of them lol

that would be my plan if they don’t give her one. I just thought it would be cool to take a picture together wearing the medals if she is willing to walk/run it. She may not even want to do it so my planning may all be for nothing lol

I'm willing to bet you won't have a hard time getting a medal for her. Good luck! I hope she wants to do it with you. What a fun experience.

Last month on the Dream DH went to get ours at Guest Services while I was still on the island. They just asked him how many, no proof necessary. :)

Are they still using the nice rubber medals? Or are they back to the hard plastic mickey heads with "winner" on them?

The age limit was 10. They let my 9.75 year old run it with me, but she couldn't get a bib or a medal (meaning in the end, I didn't get a medal).

They had the rubber ones, with a different design than what I had gotten in the past. I had actually stopped doing it but had to come out of retirement this trip to get a "new" medal (I had seen them in advance online). :teeth:

Nice! I'm gonna try and get my daughter to do it with me on our May cruise! I need that medal! lol I have the version before this.

We were at Castaway this weekend (3/13) and did the 5K (just walked it, but still counts!). The only place to get a medal was at Guest Services on the ship. We didn’t have to sign up before hand. We just decided to do it since the weather was too cool for us to swim.

The availability of getting the medals on Castaway Cay depends upon when you finish the "race." My daughter and I ran the 5K and finished a little before 11:00 and were able to get our medals at the bike rental stand.

Just trying to see if there are any updates...has the Castaway Cay 5k returned to normal yet or is it still DIY? TIA

Technically unless you're doing the official runDisney Castaway Challenge after Marathon Weekend (and maybe others? not positive on that) it is always unofficial (no official timing mats and less than a 5K) and on your own and on your honor to do it, so essentially DIY.

I did the official CC5K in Jan 2017 and am finally doing it again Jan 2023!
