I am sure this must have been answered before but the Search function just isn't giving it up for me this morning.

Can anyone who has recently done one tell me about this activity? How do you sign up, how does it work, are there facilities to change out of running gear into your beach attire after, etc.? I am interested, but I need details...what can I say, I'm a planner!

Sign up is in one of the bar areas the morning of the run. Sign in and they give instructions. You leave the ship as a group, take a picture with Goofy in his running gear, and head to the start area. It's a bit of a walk, near Serenity Bay. There is no changing facility, but there are restrooms near the start/finish. No lockers, but there is a trunk by the start/finish and one of the CM's is there to hand out the medals to finishers. You can stow things there, but I wouldn't leave anything really valuable.

I just ran it on the June 2nd 8-Nt. Magic cruise. We met in Diversions betw/ 8:30 AM & 8:45 AM to sign-up & get our bib. We had the option to walk with the group out to the start/finish location or to meet there @ 9:15 AM. My family & I just walked out with the group. Once there, we were shown the map of the route and then we were off. @ The finish, everyone was given a Mickey Winner medal. As for shirts, you can go to She Sells Sea Shells 2 that is right next to the start/finish and purchase a Castaway Cay 5K t-shirt. Since you don't actually pay to race, a shirt is not included. ;) My husband purchased mine while I ran. That day, they only had adult Mediums, XL and 2XL, I believe. Do not know about kids sizes b/c I only needed one for me. & Just an FYI, the Navigator says it is for children 12 & up. Then that evening, I received a Magical Moments certificate for completion of the 5K.

Do note that it is a very different climate than from most of the US. Luckily I live in TX, so I am used to running in high humidity and heat. ;) The day I ran, it was overcast while the run was going on, so it was nice that the sun wasn't bearing down on us. But it was humid as all get out and I know that that was an issue for some people b/c they were not used to the humidity.

& Yes, no times were given from the CM that was overseeing our 'race'. I started the stopwatch on my phone and then stopped it as I crossed the finish line. My husband timed me too, but was trying to take pictures of me as I finished, so his time wasn't quite as accurate as mine. ;)

My only real complaint was the water cups they were handing out were plastic & we had to run w/ them until we came upon a trash can. The trash cans weren't easily accessible either, so that definitely slowed me down. For one of them, I had to walk up into the sand to be able to throw my cup away.

All in all, it was fun & I think I'll be doing it again in Dec. on our NYE cruise. My husband was to run w/ me, but he was injured, so he just cheered me on along w/ my girls. It was my first time to ever run any kind of race, be it official or not. ;)

HTHs!:thumbsup2

When I ran it on the June 2nd 8-Nt. Magic cruise out of NYC, Goofy was not out & in his running gear for us to take a picture with. :( Just wanted to post this so people won't be disappointed if they think he'll be there and he isn't. :thumbsup2

When I ran it last year I didn't sign up , just showed up!:thumbsup2 And I actually just ran with my lanyard on and went back to the ship afterwards to get beach ready!:goodvibes

I'm starting Couch to 5K this week & I really hope to do this on our cruise!

I did the Run 5k app and it definitely helped me prepare for my first 5k, which was the Castaway Cay 5k. & Believe me, if I can do it, you can too. I hated to run, but it turned me into a runner. Not one that likes it all the time, but a runner nonetheless. ;)

Good Luck! :goodvibes

I cant wait to run this!!! I am soo excited. When I was reading something and I found this. I thought this will be good to help me with my soccer career!!

Thanks for all the replies, folks, very helpful! I'm in Virginia so we're pretty used to heat and humidity. This will be a great run though because we have such an awesome beach on which to collapse...after a refreshing romp in the ocean!!

Hahaha I am from VA and thought the same thing as well I had been running in Iraq heat so thought I would be good to go. It was really humid the heat wasnt so bad but the tropical humidty is way worse than VA.

Actually I would amount it to running on the 4th of July (remeber how bad that was this year??)

Okie dokie then! Well, at least it's short!! :-)

I am pretty sure they offer it on every cruise. But if it is a Double Dip, I don't know if they do it for both stops @ CC or just 1.

HTHs!:thumbsup2

We were on a June 24th Double Dip and they DID offer it both days at CC.

It was fun! I did a C25K beginning in January to lose baby weight/get ready for this and am glad I did.

It will suck while you're doing it (we were battling 90 degree heat, 95% humidity, and 15-20 MPH winds) but when you're done, you'll feel so proud!

Take a look at the FAQ sticky- there is a thread about the CC 5K.
Maybe there is other info that would be helpful.

That's very encouraging! Every year we walk a really popular 5k here at home, but I want to be able to run one!
