Castaway Cay 5k under 10

Yeah. Unless they change stuff. Always an option. But my kid did it and got a medal.

I wasn’t sure if they only let the official participants off the ship at that point.
When you report to the theater for the 5k, they don't necessarily screen to a list. Bring the kid.

My understanding is that 5k is no longer getting off ship before everyone else, however.

When my dh did it on the Fantasy earlier this year there was no meeting place or even an official start time like in the past. He was told he could get off and run it whenever he wanted. There was a thread about this, shortly after they started doing it this way. He still got the medal at the end. Not sure if it's still being done this way or not. We have our next cruise in 17 days, can report when we return.

It has been like that for a while. DCL got wise to guests abusing the privilege. Expect a mass of people on deck 1 and the stairs going down to the gangway before the ship is cleared.

This past cruise in December on the Magic, they had a meetup to get bibs and sign releases a day beforehand at 3 p.m. in Fathoms. The day of, the meetup time was 20 minutes after all-ashore time at the starting line (bike rental place). The race started 10 minutes thereafter.

Exactly what we noticed. Since all 5Kers are getting off at the beginning of the day to make their way to the starting line at the same time as non-runners, you get massive crowds on both gangways. We usually choose to walk to the beach instead of waiting for the trams to thin out the initial crowd. The walk takes about 15 minutes at a good pace.

THis is how it worked for us on the Dream in early December. Meetup the day before to sign waivers and get instructions and bibs. Day of get off on your own with meetup at the starting line.

They did two starts, the second followed the first by about 5-10 minutes, for stragglers. A small number of people started shortly after that (us among them... someone has to pull up the rear, right? ;-) ).

Also the process on the Fantasy in early November, so it looks like they may have gone to this on all the ships. We’ll be there twice in the next two weeks, sailing b2b on the Magic and I’ve registered for the 5K each cruise.

They used a similar process on the Fantasy in August except they had 3 "start" times, 8:50, around 9:10 and then around 9:30, because of the large number of runners. On the Magic in December, they had one start time around 9:00. Both of the runs had the meeting the day before to sign the waivers as well as to review the route and give out the bibs. Runners got off on their own with everybody else and met up at the start line near the bike rentals. The route they used in December was the old route - out from the bikes, around the lookout trail, up to the end of the runway and then back and around the lookout trail a second time, then back to the bike rentals (just like in August). The CM said they tried the run using the new route that only went around the lookout trail once, but decided to switch back to the old route.
