Trying to think about the logistics of the run and our 2 kids. My husband and I want to do the 5K but our kids (12 and 13 yrs) won't Should they stay on the ship and then we come get them after? We will all want to spend time together on the Cay after the run. This is our first cruise, so any advice would be appreciated.

Yes you can do that. Or if you want they can meet you on Castaway Cay, BUT you will need to go to Guest Services and sign a paper that allows them to get off the ship without an adult. You can specify what ports (Castaway but not Nassau). You can carry one of the wave phones and leave the other for the kids so they can contact you.

There has been some discussion on these boards if the app (the one that you can text on your personal cell phones with) works on Castaway. We were there is December it did not work for us.

There is also programming on the island either with the teen groups or scuttles cove if that applies, you can drop them off there if you like before the race, in fact it is along the path on the walk to the starting line.

In February I found a dead spot at the start of the 5k, but it worked closer to pelican point. I don't know if it has rolled out any better since.

I like going back to the ship to shower, sunscreen-up, and put on beach clothes (and get some breakfast) so for me I would leave them in the room then meet back there post-run.

If they don't want to sleep in and/or hang out in the room, they could come off the ship with you. They could grab loungers and wait for your run to be done.

They could partake in the teen programming.

Or thy could disembark later and meet you. The last would be my least fave for my family.

The teen area had a basketball hoop, billiards, etc. I'm not sure what else, as my son didn't really check it out when we were there last week. They could hang out there. The 5K only takes about an hour, once it starts. They can go with you to the meeting place on board and walk off the ship with you to the starting point of the 5K, then hang out and wait for you.
The phone Navigator app does have some places where the texts weren't going through. But near the family beach/Pelican Plunge it worked ok
