What a great thread this is!

When I stay to park closing, we get on line for that last ride we "have" to ride. Then we take our time taking in the sights and talking about our day, and maybe peeking in a shop or two on the way out. We do, however, always seem to make it out between 30-45 minutes beyond official closing time, mostly depending on how long it took to get on that last ride. I have a hard time seeing why anyone "needs" to be in the park more than an hour after closing, unless the ride line is that long.

We always stay late at the parks and shop. All the CMs are friendly and have more time to chat. We've been the last guests to leave many a time and one August stayed until 2:30 after E-ride talking to the CM at the gates, he didn't let us leave.

at disney i can understand people wanting to stop in the stores and browse and shop on the way out of the parks, i feel that the way Mk is set up with the stores along main street, this is what they want you to do anyway.

i too feel that part of the disney experience is in the shopping and browsing in many of the great stores is fun but i personally feel that there should be a time where consideration for the workers takes hold.

entrance door locked.. store is closed dont go in the exit door. ..workers looking a bit frazzled.. day has been busy store is a mess lots of work to do. i have been working in retail for over 30 years and i have to deal with this each and every day.

on our last vacation when we were leaving disney and stopped to do some shopping i looked around the store and looked for 2 things: 1 - looked to see how many other custromers were shopping in the store and 2- i looked at the faces of the CM's to try and gauge their mood.

store is realtively empty i would ask a worker if they were still open andf if it is ok to still shop, smiling and happy faces we shopped normally. tired and generally un-disneylike faces we get what we came for and leave quickly.

this is just my 2 cents, i hope that i havent offended anyone with my opinion.

its really great to see so many of the previous posters being very considetrate of the workers

We always stay past park closing for 1/2 to one hour to shop because that is when they make a lot of money off of guests and they don't seem to mind that we do shop. (I've always thought the shops were open later than the park...or am I wrong on this?)

I would not however hang around just to hang around. We like to take pics of the Castle etc without people in it but there is always people still in the shops.

People who stay to be the last one out is a bit much...

We were gently herded out of AK last summer. I don't recall if the CM actually said anything to us, but we were exploring the trails around the Tree a little after 5 pm (park closing) and they blocked the path. Like others, we wouldn't stay more than a few minutes anyway so as not to inconvenience the park closing routine and keep CMs late, but we were winding through the trails there before we headed out.

Maybe it's just me but if I were a guest at someones house and they said "well, we will have to say goodnight, early day, lots to do to get ready". I wouldn't think that it applied only to others and I was the exception. I would tell them what a great time I had and take my leave.

I feel the same way at Disney. We have to remember that we are on vacation, usually with our families and we have been having fun all day. The CM's, especially the ones working in retail have had a hellacious day. "Guests" asking, demanding, picking things up and putting them down 50 feet away because the suddenly realized that they didn't really want that extra set of mouse ears, so I will just leave them here with the backpacks, complaining about the high cost of everything, etc. I suspect that they want to go home, put their feet up, kiss their loved ones and relax. They have a closing time for a reason. You don't stay in the theater after the movie is done, do you?

I suppose it would be ok if you at least bought something but I will bet that 90% of you just go in and look around. Hold up the staff and then leave empty handed. That has been my experience with retail and I find it rude and self involved behavior.

If Disney does indeed plan on the store being open an hour after park closing then this discussion is not really relevent but if they don't then closing time means go home, its over, have a nice night, see you tomorrow, don't let the door hit you on the way out, Ba Bye now!

I also was under the impression that the shops on Main Street were open at least an hour past the official park closing time. Like other posters said, to many people, a trip to the MK is a once in a lifetime experience. They may not have time to shop in the stores during the day because they are out experiencing the magic in the park. I would expect that Disney does a large percentage of their sales in the hour after park closing, especially in the MK. I wouldn't worry about it, the official Guidebook even recommends hitting the shops after park closing;)

I enjoy taking my time leaving the parks also. But try to be considerate of CM's that need to go home to rest. After all, how can we expect them to be happy and helpful all the time and meet our needs during operating hours on no sleep!!!!:earseek:

Personally, I'm so tired by closing that I'm lucky to have made it that long. But, after reading this thread I am wondering, Does anyone know, officially, when the shops close? I mean some have said that they thought they are open an hour after the parks. I wouldn't really go in there, but if they are supposed to stay open then that's another story. I don't mean, stay for a long time. I was just wondering what the official closing time for the shops is. Are the shops on Main Street different? Any CM's with official times?

The shops on Mainstreet are open 30 min - 1 hour after "park closing". That's when most people dash in to grab that last minute gift or the cookie to keep jr. quiet on the way home.
