Cast members cross-trained?

I noticed on our last trip that our boat skipper on the Jungle Cruise was a greeter at the Haunted Mansion the next day (BTW, he was fantastic on the JC). Is it common for CM's to share jobs? My retirement fantasy (and DWs) is to retire to Fla. and work parttime at WDW but there are so many things that look like very cool jobs. It would be great to be trained on 4 or 5 different jobs (even in different parks) and be used wherever needed. Does anyone know if this was just an unusual circumstance or is it ordinary?

cross training is very common, but not just in park attractions. Cast can be deployed on an as needed basis, this is one way that management can offer OT to CM's

when we got home from our last trip, looking at our pictures I realized we met a cm who was a "multi-princess." She had a very distinctive smile and in looking at the pics we met her as Belle at CRT and as Jasmine in the MK 2 days later. It had to be her...unless she has a twin!

One of the college program CMs that we talked with at the RnR gift shop told us that she also worked at ToT and Fantasmic. It's a smart business decision for Disney since it would allow for more flexibility with workers and would give the CMs some variety in their jobs.

yep, CM's are crosstrained within their specialty and will often pick up extra hours or be deployed to other areas or parks. for example while I was there I was in Frontierland most of the time but worked in Fantasyland for a while and at MGM for a couple of shifts.

It depends on the area, but a lot of CMs are cross trained. For example one of my roommates is "assigned" to the Front Desk at the Coronado Springs, but he's been trained in Bell Services there. Another roommate was trained for RnRC, but also works Fantasmic.

As Eric stated it depends on the area. For example your situation. The Area is AdLib Attractions. So as an attractions CM in the area you can be trained at Jungle Cruise, Aladdin/Tiki Tree, Pirates of the Caribbean, Hall of Presidents, haunted Mansion and the Riverboat. The areas for attractions in MK are Main Street , Ad/Lib (adventureland, Liberty Square), Frontierland, FantasyLand and Tomorrowland. The CM's are statused to a specific lands buisness unit and can be trained and scheduled at any ride in their location.

Very cool! I'm sure it breaks up any monotony that they might have......although it's hard for me to imagine that there would be any! Look for my post in about 15 years asking how to obtain an application for employment!!;)

As similar as these two look, I do not think it is the same person. "Jasmine" has thicker eyebrows and larger cheek lines and her nose bone is a bit more predominate on the top. "Belle's" chin is a bit more chiseled as well. However, I would not doubt for a second if they were sisters.

Sisters with the same mole/birthmark on their neck? Look at the left side :) Both pictures show a small mark on the neck... I think that it is just the angle the picture of Belle was taken at and the make-up differences that make her look a little different, but it is definetly the same girl...in my opinion.

We had a funny situation at DL... We were there with what was the "mascot" of my best friends resturant (it was a beanie baby platypus named "Shirley"). Shirley went on vacation with everyone... Well we were at DL and we met Cinderella the first day, we introduced her to Shirley and asked if we could take a picture of her with Shirley for Shirley's travel scrapbook, which of course she did. On our last day at DL we saw Sleeping Beauty so we decided to go and get a picture of her with Shirley, as we walked up Sleeping Beauty says "Shirley...Uh...I have never meet you"... We all started laughing as we realized it was the same girl from earlier in the trip... :)

Yeah, I did not see that mole. Great eye! :p

After reading this thread, I just have one thing to say about the nose, cheekbone and thick eyebrows. It could very well be done by makeup, ya never know, because like one poster said, the two have the same mole and everything. And now I am having more Disney withdrawals here, lol!

A Jungle Cruise skipper who also greeted at the Haunted Mansion -- could it be our very own Safari Steve? Steve does those two positions and is a regular poster on the DIS.

I checked with my DD who is a CM at MK. She is a 'very close personal friend' of all the Princesses :-) :-) . That's the same girl. DD knows her. The Princesses can work wonders with make-up!!

tar heel, I didn't notice his name but he was very, very good as the JC skipper. I know they all have basically the same dry jokes but some manage to present them better than others.

Steve, if you're reading this, check your schedule.....it was about 10:00am on Nov. 5. We were the family of four that sat up front with you and had the biggest smiles that you saw all day!!

BTW, tar heel, I live in Stanfield and work right down the road in Mount Pleasant. Always glad to see another Disney nut from NC! pirate:

Hi Neighbor. I hope Steve checks in, b/c I'm betting that was him.
