So, rumor is a huge layoff is about to take place at my work. Been applying every where and with the way the economy is have not received any replies just yet.

I was curious if any cast members can share your two cents about working at Disneyland? Do you feel like you can "move up" in the company or stagnant with all of the people working for the company? I am no spring chicken in age :) but was thinking this might be a good time for a career change.

can anyone help? if this needs to be moved to a different forum i understand, didn't know where to post this.

I am not a cast member but know several, at many different levels within Disney. I think the only answer I can give is ... it depends.

Like many large corporations, Disney does have its policies about hiring and advancements and like virtually all large corporations, Disney has all the "normal" job opportunities in HR, Information Systems, Marketing, etc.

If by career change you mean working in Entertainment, then what I can tell you there is it is mostly about seniority and it isn't all a bed of roses. Hours can be long and pay is competitive, but that doesn't mean it is high paying. A lot of people who thought Disney would be something special to work for as a company have learned they are a lot like other corporations ... and why not. They need to control their costs just like everyone else and just like many others, labor is a huge part of the expense.

Each CM will have a different experience there. I know some who are 25+ years with Disney and LOVE it and others who didn't feel they have ever been treated "right".

My advice, it will be what you make of it, should you choose to do it and should Disney choose you.

I would like to say that there are many opportunities for Cast Members who are qualified and want to do so to advance within the company. You most certainly do need to be proactive about it, though.
