What would you think if they opened a casino in an adult section of WDW...say the pleasure island area?? Hrmmm....intriguing question, ehh?

:)

Terrible idea IMHO and one I can't see Disney ever doing. I don't go to Vegas looking for Mickey Mouse and I hope I never see a slot machine in Disney.

That may be one of the toughest things disney would ever have to do if they ever considered it.

#1 The state of Florida isnt a clas 1 gaming state which means all slot are bingo style machines, all poker is limit, unless on indian casinos where you could play high limit tourneys.

#2 Would Disney ever consider that

i hope not. I play cards, and bet on sports, and almost the last thing i would want @ disney is a Casino

I hope they don't add casinos at WDW. If someone really wanted to go to one while here, there is one by Tampa that they could drive to.

one hundred per cent. I don't go to Vegas, I don't gamble. Let them people go to Vegas for their habit. The Mouse house is fine just the way it is. Enough riff raff came into PI as it is or was and its not one of the areas we visit anymore. Having people approach you to pretend you're their parents to get them in and all the area underaged clogging up the park changed our feeling for the attraction. When it first opened, it was a fun place to visit, everyone was a vacation guest, friendly atmosphere but it became a popular venue and changed drastically, if they tore it down, I wouldn't care.

I love VEGAS and can go there anytime I want .

But I go to Disney for the Magic and there is no Magic to Casino's at all.

We occasionally enjoy going to the casinos (hope to do Vegas next year). Always thought of it as a grown-up version of a theme park.

Would think the Universal City area or a new Loews casino hotel would be a better fit than WDW though.

Since DCL hasn't availed themselves of the opportunity to add a small casino to one of their ships, I don't see it happening @ WDW...certainly not in the "dry" MK...what would poor ole' Walt think?

I agree….Disney doesn’t allow lottery tickets to be sold anywhere onsite.

I am siding with the "terrible idea" option....just thought this was an interesting thought with them about to tear out Pleasure Island. I wasn't aware of the problems in that area of the resort either. I've only been to the Adventurer's Club once.

I think its a horrible idea. Disney is for families and how many moms and dads would run off and leave the kids in the hotel room to gamble. Nope horrible idea.

WDW and casinos is an awful idea!!!

I love to gamble so I go to Las Vegas. Vegas has all the glitz, but there is a real dark side associated with the gaming industry, and I would never want to see that happen at WDW.

I love the magic at Disney and I want it to stay that way. Let's keep it a clean and safe place for vacationing. For me, once I'm on property I've been transported to such a wonderful place, and I want to keep it that way.

Please, no! No casinos at WDW. No, no, no. The thought of the mixing of gambling and Disney is a poisonous one to me.

I don't think WDW and casinos mix. I could see them trying a small casino on one of the ships but not as the parks.

Not even on one of the ships, I hope. DCL seems to be the only cruise line I can look at that doesn't have the casinos on them. I specifically look for ships that have no casinos.

Awww, come on. Haven't you been amazed when you're inside the pyramid at Luxor? Loved the rainforest at Mirage? Marvelled at the park-like atmosphere at New York New York.

I for one am proud to stand up and say "A casino at WDW? Yes, please!" We're empty nesters, and I certainly would love to be able to go out at night - after the parks have closed - and drink a glass of Donald Duck Dark beer, served by a cocktail waitress dressed as Jessica Rabbit, as I shoot some dice at the craps table.

I think that, if Disney did decide to do it, they'd do it in a very magical way, a la Adventurers Club - grown up, but magical. And you do know those places take in the cash - think how many wonderful new E-ticket attractions all of us Disney gamblers would finance....

IMHO - YMMV

Over 10 years ago (I think it was 94) there was a referendum in Florida to legalize gambling. Disney was ready to go full ahead and that was the original idea behind the Boardwalk, make it like Atlantic City (but from the turn of the century) a good friend of mine was working at Disney at the time. Disney was even in talks with slot machine makers and had the contracts ready to sign if the voters had passed it.

Really interesting thread (I have never seen this debated on the dis, kinda nice to have a new Disney concept to ponder :thumbsup2 ) However, may that above mentioned idea continue to lie in the grave where it belongs! I can see some people, empty nesters in particular, wanting gambling at WDW. But you can do that at a variety of places, Vegas, Atlantic City and many places in between. The magic of Disney however is a very special, unique thing. Other theme parks have tried to copy it and can't. So to me that special theming/feeling that can only be found on two opposite sides of the US, should be the main and only draw of a Disney vacation. I guess I hope that the Disney higher ups will realize that if something ain't broke, don't fix it! In my mind so often with gambling comes a lot of other things I don't particularly like, and I am no prude. I just always think of smoky, rooms full of people mindlessly putting nickles into slot machines. Nothing magical about that. And I know gambling can be fun and not that tacky but that's the image I get. At Disney that is the kind of thing I am trying to escape. Frankly, I'd rather have my church put in a slot maching than see a Disney resort do that!

They are tearing out pleasure island?

I have five casinos less than 10 miles from my home. I've been to them once or twice to eat or for a meeting. Never to gamble. I'm just not interested in them.

I usually agree with you DrT, but not on this one.
