should dcl have a casino onboard?

  • Yes, definitely!

  • Well, okay, but keep it low key.

  • Nah, maybe a game night for fun and prizes.

  • Absolutely not!

i figured i'd post a poll to find out how many people would mind a casino on a dcl ship. i did a quick search, just by titles, and i don't believe this question has been asked in the recent past.

i don't think it would be a bad idea. by no means am i suggesting the casino should take up a lot of space or resources, but just as the ship has adult-only pools, restaurants, and clubs, and i believe bingo's only playable by 18+,why not a casino?

i'm picturing cards with disney characters, a hidden-mickey in the roulette wheel, or maybe i'm just a dork.

this way, disney could make a little more money, keeping costs -- and therefore (hopefully) prices -- down! and those who don't travel with kids, or those whose kids can't be torn away from their clubs and activities, can have yet another activity for them.

or you know what, a casino night during one of the cruise, maybe no money, but raffles and card games for disney prizes (i know i'd jump at the chance to play who wants to be a mousekateer for onboard credit and a free cruise!).

please comment too! polls can only say so much! i'm surprised no one even thinks a casino themed night, not with real money, but for fun and prizes, is a good idea.

I think it would be a good thing. Im not sure if we would use it, but anything that might make DCL more moneyand possibly help keep the cost of cruiseing from rising so much is fine with me. Im not sure why others would be so against it, if you don't want to gamble you dont have to go in the casino. But it would be there for people who chose to gamble.

I think a casino would be great! It's just one more option to have and something that lots of adults enjoy. As long as no one spends their whole cruise betting away the excursion money I don't see a problem!

As anyone who knows me could tell you, I love to go to Las Vegas. But for some reason, I just don't think they need to have a casino on DCL. I can't put my finger on exactly why not.....maybe it's a personal issue for me & I like to keep my different vacations separate. I don't know.
I am very competitive, though, so I think more games with prizes would be great. I got in the hot seat on Mouseketeer, and would love a shot at doing it again. But also more games that aren't quite so nerve-wracking, and where more people have a chance to participate.

weird, do poll posts not keep track of views? it keeps saying "0" views, even though there's at least been 14 as of right now since that's how many people's voted.

You have to get off the boards and get on again, they will only show what they did when you origianly logged on.

thanks makaylee! it must be just polls, because i see the views change just be refreshing the page for other types of posts.

Not a problem. :D This should turn out to be a pretty interesting thread.

i agree, makaylee. i'm thinking the thread will pick up once it hits daytime on the east coast.

Okay, I'm not thrilled with the idea of the casion onboard a DCL ship ... but a casino night could be fun, winning noncash prizes (like a DCL cruise maybe?) :teeth:

The DCL is a "family" cruise line. If you try to put a casino on the ship, you might as well make a themed area in disneyland and disney world called "Las Vegas Land". Why bring SIN on a ship that should bring togetherness. That sound like an Eisner-ism.

I voted the "maybe a night for games and prizes" just because I don't think "absolutely not." We usually don't "do" the casino on board, the casino is just a room that we have to walk through on our way to someplace else.

If Disney were to put a casino on the ships, I wouldn't think less of them, I just don't have a strong opinion on the subject.

We've been on lots of cruises, and BINGO is played and we've played that at least once on all of our cruises. Carnival had/has I don't remember the prize that was offered on our December '03 cruise, offered a free cruise as the grand prize for the final bingo. I have friends who won the cruise, and on our family cruise of the southern Caribbean, my mom went as far as the final 5, the winner was determined by a drawing, these 5 all had bingo first, and that experience did add to our funtime memories of the cruise.

I votes maybe a prize night. One of the things I like about DCL is that it's very family friendly. I think people who are very heavy gamblers won't go on DCL, and I think that's probably better for the environment of the cruise. There are lots of options for people who want a casino on the cruise. And lots of options on shore for gambling.

I think it would be a good idea. Gives the adults something more to do.. they already have adult areas, so why not ? As far as the "sin" view, if that's the issue then they should close down all of the bars, too.

I personally like the fact that Disney has no casino. The casinos on the cruise ships just seem to add somthing negative to the whole experience for me, and I cannot put my finger on it either. I just don't see the need for them on a cruise ship & in my opinion it is one of the GOOD things about the disney ships...not having a casino!!

That being said we have always brought along a roll of quarters to play the slot machines on the other 2 cruise lines we have been on. We actually left with $50 one time. As happy as we were about that....we are always 100 times happier just to be stepping foot on the Disney Magic or Wonder....

You know what I think it might be....

The casinos to me are full of anxiety & stress & nervousness and the rest of the Disney ship to me is the ultimate in relaxation. I think that is it!! On the other cruises I have been on, I have never felt as much at home or at peace or as relaxed as I do on the Wonder or Magic. I think the casino might detract from my ultimate relaxation, there are of course other things on the other lines that are not as relaxing or "homey", but I bet (inmy mind) the casino is a big part of that. Walking through it to get somewhere else or having to hear the noise from it when nearby, the inevitable cigareete smoke drifting from it....HMMMM

Maybe I am just crazy & (like I said) it is all in my head....but THERE...that is why I would NOT want a casino on DCL!! Having a type of game night would be pretty cool though!!

I have no desire to gamble and probably wouldn't set foot in the thing but I have no problem with a casino as long as it's not in your face and requiring you to walk through it to get to dinner or the pool or something. I don't drink alcohol either but I'm sure that brings in a huge revenue for the cruise line (at those prices it must!) but I wouldn't dream of saying that because I'm not a fan of alcohol that no alcohol should be allowed on the ship. I just choose to not partake in that aspect of cruising and likewise people can chose to not gamble... I'm for anything that keeps prices where I can afford them!

I think a casino-themed or other-themed night with games and prizes would be a fun option, so that's what I voted for. If there were a casino, then I think it should be secluded at the far end of the "adult only" area of the ship, so parents who wre concerned wouldn't have to worry about their kids seeing it/asking questions. I don't think it would need to be as big as the casinos on other ships anyway. I wouldn't be using it, and I don't think as many passengers on Disney would be as compared with other cruise lines. Good poll---food for thought.

NO WAY!

Like another poster said, it's a family cruise. When I think of casinos I think of alcohol, smoking, half naked women prancing around, and people who are obsessed with winning. Doesn't sound very family friendly to me. Really nice example to set for children.

OK, a Disney casino probably wouldn't be as bad as a Vegas casino, but it still gives me a very negative feeling when I think about it. And seriously, does that even sound right to you, "Disney Casino". I don't think so.

Even though I love DCL, I would never cruise with them again if they decided to put casinos on their ships.

Would I want a casino on the Disney ship, NO. And I say this even that I like going to the land base casinos. But I think it will take away from the Disney Magic, but I like the idear abour the casino night playing with play money for prizes.
