Does anyone know if their are cashless tolls around Universal/Seaworld...and even north Florida into the Pensacola area?

Headed that way tomorrow and I recently was in TX renting through Thrifty....got a bill today for $9 worth of tolls and $120 administration fee as we went through cashless tolls there. Last trip I rented through National and they just billed me for the tolls...I assumed that would happen again. NOT with Thrifty. Unfortunately, I rented through Thrifty this time as well and just got the previously mentioned bill today.

I have tried to look around and search myself but it isn't very clear. Just wondering if there are cash tolls available or is it not obvious. Don't want to have this happen again.

Thanks for any help!

Yes, there are cashless or cash in Florida. Pensacola has a toll to Gulfbreeze on the Bob Sikes bridge. There is also the East-West expressway (or what ever it is called now) around Orlando and the Florida Turnpike. You, of course, can avoid them but, as often as we are in the area we have a Sunpass. This allows you to pass through the cashless section of the toll booths without stopping.

Here is a list of all the toll roads according to wiki.

Thanks...I would rather just pay cash if possible as I highly doubt we travel through many or maybe none of these. I just don't want to get on a cashless only road.

I believe you will want to take I75 south to the FL Turnpike. That will dump you onto I4 an exit or two away from Universal. They have cash tolls on the Turnpike.

Actually we are flying into Orlando, driving to Pensacola, and then back to Orlando. Doing stuff in Orlando first and last so this is how it had to be although I dread the drive. Looks like we will need to take 75 to 10 which takes us to Pensacola. Looks like that may be the best way anyway.

I've never seen a cashless toll road in the Orlando area. There's always a choice- to stop at the toll plaza or drive through with a SunPass.

In Orlando, the 528, 408, 417, 429 and the Turnpike all have tolls.

That's correct!

That's correct! Yes, that is a pretty good distance to drive. 10 is a boring drive!

There is a toll outside of Pensacola, it is off I-10 heading to Garcon Point Bridge $3.75 but cash or sun pass only. It is not on I-10, it is the Avalon Blvd Exit. As far as I know there are no tolls on I-10 from MS thru Jacksonville, FL

You have all been so helpful....I appreciate it! I spoke with Thrifty several times and I still don't like the way they handle things. Just for information..they told me after you turn your rental car in, you can go to rentalcarticket.com and enter your rental agreement number and license plate number and see if you owe anything and pay from there to avoid the penalties. They said to do this for 5 business days after your trip because that is how long they have to post the fines.

Of course, NO ONE told me this info at Thrifty when I rented from them. I guess I am supposed to be a mind reader.

The only place I know of off hand in Fl, that is completely cashless, is the Turnpike, but that is in south Fl. I forget where it starts off hand. I think South of Jupiter/West Palm area. Every toll road I travel and I use the Beachline, Turnpike, 408,429 and 417, regularly, all have a cash option. You really cant miss it. As you approach, its 1 of 2 things. Either a standard toll plaza, that will have signs above each that say Epass/Sunpass or Epass/Sunpass/Cash or exact change/Sun Pass. If not youll see a sign that has a road, and a small turn off to the right, that has manned tolls, and straight ahead for the cashless system.

Oh No! There are cashless tolls on the way to Orlando? We just got a bill that was triple the toll amount for a cashless toll that we never even knew about when driving home from Destin.

Never heard of such a thing! It made me feel like we were being very taken advantage of. It just seems sneaky.

Does anyone know if we will hit any of these things coming down from TN through GA?

I guess it's a technological way to save money for the state. Growing up in the Chicago area we are no strangers to tolls, and understand the need for them. But those toll areas that don't have booths and you are just supposed to know you are going through one, well, those just don't seem fair.

That is awful! I'm sure that there are plenty of people that visit Florida that don't know about this. What a racket. :sad2:

Depending on which way you come yes there are tolls. If you take I75,to the turnpike there are some tolls but they are on the exits. The turnpike tolls pick up on the tpke itself ( not the exit entrances)in Kissimmee if I remember correctly. I don't think there are any on the tpke itself between 75 and Clermont which is where I normally get on. Just the exits entrances

If you come down I 95, to I4 there are no tolls as you come down 2 interstates.

The only toll road I know of coming in/out of Destin has cash toll booths also. If you drive past them in the cashless lanes, you're expected to have a cashless payment method set up. It's pretty hard to miss the bank of toll lanes. Did you just not understand how it works? That's the way (most) all the booths around central FL look too--booths on one side (usually the right) and cashless (SunPass) breezes by on the left.
