I am driving from Tampa Airport to WDW and Then to Port Canaveral then back to Tampa. Paying tolls is no big deal to me. The question is, with the driving I will be doing how many of the roads are cashless, meaning that I will need to get Plate pass from rental car company which is robbery? Do I need the plate pass, or will the toll roads that I will be on have manned or cash payable toll lanes?:firefight

Don't waste the money on the SUN-PASS. The tolls are around $4 for Route 528 to Cape Canaveral and the last exit has manned booths. I-4 from Tampa to Orlando is free.

There are no completely cashless tolls along the routes you describe (Canaveral to Orlando to Tampa.

But I suggest that, whenever possible, using the (usually slower) manual lanes and getting a receipt each time. Because rental companies offer toll paying options they are not very forgiving of mistakes and toll plaza system errors.

If you travel to Florida often, either driving or renting cars, you might consider getting your own Sun Pass. That is good at all toll locations in Florida and a few in neighboring states. There is a deposit required but there are no extra fees.

The Plate Pass or modified Sun Pass that rental companies offer is a convenience but much more expensive than your own Sun Pass or cash due to added daily or weekly fees.

Airport to I-4 .. no tolls. Tampa to St Pete ... no tolls

there is one small section of 'cashless' toll road in Tampa - the Tampa crosstown expressway aka Selmon Expessway
http://www.tampa-xway.com/FAQS/AllElectronicTolling.aspx

there is NO REASON for you to get near it ... if you get really really lost however .. .

In general you want to check this site https://www.sunpass.com/rentalcar

how each rental car company handles electronic tolls varies WIDELY form a minimal extra fee to over $20 PER TOLL .... I recommend anyone driving a rental in Florida read this site IN ENTIRETY b4 they select their rental company. A small boo boo like driving thru the wrong lane on a toll road can end up costing you more than a day's rental with SOME companies . . .

I appreciate the help. I cannot find anywhere an easy way to determine what roads has cashless tolls. This is frustrating.
Ok I believe I have it figure out now.
My route is leaving airport from Thrifty to get I4 to Orlando/WDW. There is tolls but none are cashless. Then I will be going from WDW to Port Canaveral. There is tolls here also but none are cashless. Then I am going from Port Canaveral to St Pete. Once again tolls involved none of which are cashless. Then from St Pete back to Thrifty Rental at Airport. Tolls involved none cashless.
I also understand to get and keep receipts because errors happen.:car::firefight

We didn't find any cashless tolls when we drove from WDW to Cape Canaveral last summer but some were unmanned so you need exact change. It was a 75 cent toll on the entrance ramp as you got on the highway.

I went from Tampa airport to WDW. From WDW went to Port Canaveral. From Port Canaveral I went to St Pete(west of Tampa on Gulf). From St Pete to Tampa airport. I experienced no cashless tolls. I think the tolls from WDW to Port was roughly $5 each way. This was from 6/8-6/20/2014

I bought a sunpass for our trip. It was only $5. Plus you get a discount on all of the tolls.
