Cash vs. credit in the parks...

Are there any spots in the park that we cannot use a card? Possibly the food carts? I know we used cards in the stores on our last trip. I am always uncomfortable carrying too much cash with us.

Say you were going to go to DL for 4 days & wanted to have $50 cash each day. Would you suggest carrying all the money with you? Leaving it in a hotel safe? Is there a place at the park to get cash?

There are ATM's in the park, though I'm not sure what the surcharge is, I'd imagine it would get expensive if you withdrew money every day. I'm a debit card person really. ALMOST all dining options take cards. Only a very, very small number of the carts do not, and it's because they just aren't hooked up to a machine, but really most do.

I'm not positive, but I think the fee for the ATMS is $3.00. They are Chase ATMs though, so if you are using a Chase card, you will not get charged the fee.

I don't like carrying too much cash either, and I don't like seeing all the different transactions on my bank statement when I get home. So I just go and put what we budgeted on gift cards. That way we just carry the gift card and a little bit of cash (for ODV carts and other stuff).

You can basically get EVERYTHING at disneyland with a credit card.

ODV-QSR now accepts credit card(aka churros/pop/etc)

ODV DL Ice cream specific carts now take credit cards.

Something you could do is buy a gift card and just use that in the parks.

yes, gift cards are accepted, vouchers are accepted...

the ONLY thing ive come into problems with is those birthday cards. We had some issues with those and were told we cant accept thoses...

next year however, ODV is suppose to be all wired up...

Wow, when did that happen? I remember the extreme frustration of being on my own and wanting a mickey bar (I can't have them around hubby and son, because they cannot have the corn syrup that's in the bar), not having cash, the carts not taking cards...had to go buy Disney Dollars which was a long transaction because she coudln't find them (under the register)...then when I got them, the carts were all closed up.

Of course now that Chase took Wamu, I can just run to the ATM no problem.

But actually now I don't have to worry about that!


OP, I too enjoy using giftcards. I either break up my budget per day and make my first stop any store to buy a GC for that day, or I buy one big giftcard. Keep the receipt separate from the card, b/c that receipt *can* help you, if your card is lost or stolen.
