I have heard people on here talk about paying cash for rooms. How does that work? What kind of discount do members get?? Thanks for any replies.

Based on availability, DVC members can get a 25% member discount by reserving cash nights thru MS (only at DVC resorts).

Not all nights will be available and many won't be available at 11 months, but these reservations can be linked to point reservations so members won't need to move.

That's interesting to know.

I wonder why they don't tell us that in any paperwork we have.

Is the cash discount off the rack room rate??

Yes. But it isn't always available. A non-discounted cash reservation at a DVC resort through MS can be linked easily to a points reservation for the exact same villa. Just like the discounted DVC reservation through MS. There is no discount on non-DVC reservations nor can CRO give you the discounted rate.

Sometimes the DVC cash reservations is not the best deal. I was trying to add on one night...did not have enough pts. :guilty:

So I called and got the DVC member cash for a studio at SSR. They gave me a great rate compared to normal rack cost. Then just this week...on Disney's main website...they offered SSR studios special for $69.00 less then my cash DVC res. So needless to say...I book the night I needed....on line with Disney and canceled my DVC cash res.

However, my one night res. being a room special...I do not get the dining plan for that night. No big deal, flying in late that night, I just wanted to be at the same resort before I checked in the morning...and I have the deluxe dinning for the other 3 nights.:woohoo:

You know they can't link those two reservations, right? But if you note the other reservation number on each reservation (and they are in the same name, exactly), you may be able to stay in the same room.

We have done the same thing in the past and they have linked them at check in. There is no guranteee but usually if it is the same room type, they are able to keep you in the same room at check in. We just had to go down and get new keys on the switch from website special room to DVC points ressie.

Great Idea...thanks for the thought!!!:goodvibes
And we are in the same room type...so I don't have a problem going down the next morning to get new room keys. Good time to get and fill up my resort mug.

Just for reference sake. I have a cash ressie for 4/18/09 (as I didn't have enough points to cover this night.) I was given a rate of 656.00+ tax for a 2 bdrm. Which to me isn't bad considering that point wise it would be at least 73 points for a Saturday night @ 10.00 a point (if you could find them at that rate = 730.00 SO its all good for me.
