We've never paid cash for DVC accommodations, but next summer we want to take extended family for a trip.

We plan on doing 2 2BR units (which our points will cover) and 1 studio (not enough points to cover).

So we were thinking of paying cash for the studio with the DVC discount. Two questions:

1. What is the cash rate for a studio with DVC discount at BCV during magic season?

2. When can we reserve the studio (with discount)?

Thanks!!!

The cash rate is a flat 25% off of the rack rates. When a room is booked with this discount, the housekeeping follows the same schedule as rooms rented on points. In other words, there are no daily cleanings.

When booking a room with the DVC cash discount, the member (you) is supposed to be actually staying in the room. Not sure how dilligent MS would be in trying to confirm this before allowing the booking.

Rooms are only made available at the cash discount when DVC projects that it will not be able to rent them all out for points. Summer sounds like a good candidate for getting a room with the discount. But they may not yet have released rooms for booking with the discount when you first call. I've heard reports that you can reserve a room at the full cash rate, and DVC will apply the 25% discount when/if a room is released for use with the discount.

You may be better off renting points at $10 each and having them transferred to your account. If you go this route, just remember you're stuck with the points (won't get a refund) if your family members try to back out of the trip.

DVC cash discounts are not guaranteed, but are based on availability, since these rooms come from member "points" inventory.

To be eligible for the discount, you as the DVC member must be staying in that room.

Often, an AP discount, or other discount code through CRO will save you more money, so be sure to explore those options as well.

For an approximation of what the DVC discount will save you, get a price for room only for the dates desired from the Disney.com website and subtract 25%.

Thank you for your help.

I hadn't thought of renting points as another option.

We do have AP's but I don't know if I will feel comfortable waiting until discounts come out.

I also didn't know we had to stay in the room.

Decisions, decisions. . .

Just wanted to add to the idea of renting points for the stay. I have been checking on this as well, we are going to need a 2 bed and 5 studios next summer. From what I have found it will be much cheaper for you to rent the points or get them transferred from another member for the Sun - Thurs than it will be to get a discounted room. I called CRO for regular rates in June and took as much as 40% off for AP rates and it still works out better to use points. You can call CRO too for rates for your time period and see how it works out for you.

Good luck,
Lori

You don't need to put a deposit on a DVC cash room (just a credit card guarantee). You could book it and see if better AP rates come out. For my May trip to OKW, I wanted to add a cash night for Friday night, 1 bedroom. It was about $321 with tax with the DVC rate, $301 with tax with the AP rate, plus the AP rate included housekeeping (which we appreciated on our 6th night). It was 48 points for a Friday night, so renting didn't make sense.

If your stay is Sun-Thurs only, renting points would make sense. If it includes weekend nights, compare your options.

Last month we paid cash for a Saturday night stay for our in laws at OKW and paid $190 before taxes.
