If a DVC member makes a cash reservation through DVC Member Services, which "pool" of rooms is used to fill the reservation? The DVC member rooms or the CRO rooms?

Example:

Person # 1 is not a DVC member. He calls CRO to use his credit card to make a reservation. He is told that studios are available to Disney Resort XYZ for his dates.

Person # 2 is a DVC member. He calls Member Services to book a studio using his points at the same resort for the same dates. He is told that nothing is available.

Person # 3 is a DVC member who used up all his points. He calls Member Services to book a studio using his credit card at the same resort for the same dates. Will he be told that studios are available (like Person # 1)? Or will he be told that studios are not available (like Person # 2)?

Assume there's only one type of studio at that resort.

Does it matter how many months in advance the people are calling?

Caller #1 is looking at the cash availability in the system.

Caller #2 is getting the DVC points availability.

Caller #3 should have access to that DRC cash availability thru the system without regard to member availability or Member discounts and should also have access to any member inventory. MS won't be able to apply any non-DVC discounts (AP, etc.) if there is no DVC discount available for the nights wanted - so sometimes a call to DRC will yield a better rate than even the DVC discount.

Yes it will depend on when you call. There may be no cash availability 11 months ahead but may have some within 7 months.

Okay let me hop in here Doc and ask this. Can you book a CRO ressie at a DVC resort and link it to a ressie made through MS on points? At one time I thought they were working on being able to do that. Thanks

I don't know the answer to that particular question, but if you access the same availability for cash, why wouldn't you just make the whole reservation through MS? Maybe they handle room only?

I just called trying to get OKW for the Marathon. There was nothing on points, but I got what I wanted on cash with the member discount. I was happy with that, since I didn't really want to borrow the points, anyway.

The reason I asked is because we can get the military deals they have sometimes. Those discounts are more than the member discounts. :)

The AP discounts are 40% right now. It sure would be nice to link a points reservation to an AP discount. I would be tempted to add a night, but not at the risk of having to move out and back in just for one day.

No, you can't officially link them. But you can have each reservation noted. I did it once with an AP rate, it was the last night of our stay at OKW (Friday night). All I had to do was go to the front desk on Friday morning and get new keys, we kept the same room.

It can get tricky. If you are staying at a resort with views, like BWV, you have to be sure your views are the same to keep the same room. Also dedicated vs lockoff.
