Hi

I am missing one night for an upcoming trip, have created a waitlist.. but in the meantime I would like to make a cash reservation just in case..

Is there any advantage on doing so through dvc member services?

thanks!

If there is availability, and you are booking a DVC unit, there is a 25% discount. Availability is the key, and it doesn't align with what you m,ay be able to see as cash inventory.

When you book it via MS, it can be connected differently than when it is cash one booked directly via Disney.

As I learned recently, you don't always get the discount. Apparently it is at their discretion.

There was an SSR available at rack rate on the regular WDW website for this fall. I called MS to see about DVC cash availability and it was exactly the same price.

It is different inventory, not discretion so much.

Ah, I did know it was different inventory, I just used the WDW cash price as a means of comparison. It was odd that the DVC price with the 25% discount was the same price as rack rate with no discounts.

So I dunno?

The 25% discount is not guaranteed. I've called asking about rooms before and got typical Disney rack rates - no discount. For DVC rooms.

Of course - that just brought up ideas of buying more points so I wouldn't need to pay cash... :poop:

The inventory that is available tor cash booking via Disneyworld.com is not available for points or for MS cash bookings.
I've never tried this (had luck with waitlists), but if you did do it this way, would MS still be able to combine the reservations into one? Or, do you risk having to change rooms on the last night because the 1 night reservation is treated differently (and you can't just stay in the room you were in for the first x number of nights). That would be a pain.

If booked via disneyworld.com they cannot combine. It's unlikely you will switch rooms, but it can depend. For instance, if you're in a dedicated studio vs. a lock-off.

You can’t combine into one confirmation number, but you can have “continuing stay with confirmation #xxxxx” noted on both reservations. Do it as soon as both are booked so that the room assigners know it when they start working on assigning the first room. They’d prefer to keep you in the same room, too, to avoid the extra full cleaning.

Good to know. Thanks.

The discount is 25% off the actual rack rate but it is not 25% off of any already discounted rate being offered by Disney to the general public. For some time now, Disney has been offering SSR to the general public at a rate which it asserts is 25% off of that which would otherwise be its rack rate. Thus, the discounted rate you were offered likely just happens to be the same discounted rate Disney has been offering for some time to the general public.
