I thought I'd read that there was sometimes a special cash price (like a discount, but not called a discount) for members at non-dvc resorts, but when I called, they said no. Was the CM correct? Thanks!

That's correct, only DVC resorts. I've found public or AP discounts can be better. I got a 35% AP discount at BWV in 2013, ended up not using it when my waitlist came through. DVC would have only been 25%.
Thanks. We're going to DL in August...not holding my breath for public discounts & living on the east coast, I don't need a DL AP. Full price is killing me. LOL
If your points are pre-3/11, you might consider a points reservation at Grand Cal hotel, Paradise Pier Hotel or the Disneyland Hotel in addition to the Grand Cal villas. But also consider nearby, off-property hotels. There are many reasonably priced hotels within an easy walk to Disneyland, California Adventure, Disney shopping and dining.

We just spent 6 nights at embassy suites "anaheim south". Honestly, for DL, it wasn't a big deal at all, and I'd do it that way again before paying the exorbitant DL hotel prices, especially since they don't seem to provide equivalent on-property advantages compared to WDW.
