The
DVC 25% discount for member's cash reservations is usually not available until within 6 months. DVC's first priority is to use points for all reservations. When the system is satisfied that a specific night won't be used for point reservations from the member inventory, those nights will be released for cash reservations with the discount. For some nights, the discount may be available close to 11 months ahead. For some nights, the discount will never be available and for many, the discount will be made available a few months before.
Member inventory is comprised of the villas represented by points held by the owners at a given DVC resort. This number is reduced as point reservations are made at the resort and by the use of DVC points by members for non-DVC options (cruise, Concierge Collection, Disney Collection, etc.).
Within 60 days of arrival, villas unreserved by members is released to CRO for public cash reservation - in addition to villas already made available from Developer Inventory (the 2-4% or each resort owned by DVD) and from points used by members for non-DVC options.
If the discount is NOT available when you first check, I'd suggest making a "member cash" reservation (if they'll allow it) and if a discount becomes available later, it will be applied without further calls. If the cash reservation can't be made when you call, feel free to call back a few months later (MS may even be able to advise when to call back).
Enjoy!
