Cash Discount Rates

I seem to recall seeing that DVC members can book rooms at a discounted cash rate for those times when they need the extra rooms for family, friends, etc.

Is there a way to see these discounts online, or do you have to call Member Services?

I have my DVC membership linked up with my WDW website profile, and it even said on the website that I was seeing DVC member offers because I was signed in, but in comparing the rates I was being quoted to those I was seeing when I was NOT signed into the website, I didn't see a difference.

Discounts for DVC members are only on DVC rooms and you have to book through MS.

It is 25% off of regular price (i.e., if you see Disney already offering a discount price to anyone who wants it, you don't get to apply the 25% off that discounted price). You should thus always check to see what, if any, discounts, Disney is already offering to the general public for DVC rooms, because at times those discounts are better than the DVC discount.

I did this once for a friend four years ago. At first, I thought, no way would a discounted room be available. I called MS and was surprised to get a discounted rate during a busy period. The savings for a 7 night trip was quite substantial. I've tried several times in the last few years to get a discounted rate without any availability.

Things may be different now with the pandemic, but curious as to whether others are seeing the same thing regarding availability of discounted cash rates.

It used to be the discounted cash reservation from MS was only able to be used by the member. You couldn't make the reservation for a guest if you were not on the reservation. I don't know if that has changed or not. Plus the discount isn't always available. It has nothing to do with inventory you see available on the Disney Reservation Center site.

This was several years ago and I made reservations for a friend. I didn't have any issues with the customer service member. Weird, maybe I got lucky.

You got lucky.

The discount can be used for friends/family and the member doesn't have to be there.

Thanks for posting this. Just goes to show that we need to verify information with official sources when reports conflict. Most of the time, people are knowledgeable and are correct, but I thought it was amiss as I was able to do it before with a seemingly experienced reservation agent. No criticism as I appreciate all the knowledge on this board - trust but verify!

Is this a blue card only benefit, or is it available to resale purchasers as well?
