Casey Anthony TRIAL thread #2

Motion denied at this time, but everything else he said about motions for mistrial kind of scares me. Can you imagine if this was a mistrial?? Or a hung jury? I don't think I can do this again!

I was thinking about what he said while I was making brinner (breakfast for dinner!), and this is what I think - Judge was reminding JB that he could reserve a ruling on a mistrial for anytime, even up to the point where he has read the verdict, before he has officially stated the verdict. So I am reading into it, "Hey JB, don't keep asking for a mistrial because I just might reserve ruling for one until later. Then if I open the envelope and the verdict is not guilty, I could grant your request for a mistrial and we do this all over again."

I liked the judge's explanation tho about why it wasn't a reason for mistrial. The duct tape is a big part of this case, esp where it was placed on Caylee. Duct tape shown on a skull doesn't give a good picture of the size of the duct tape placed over her actual face, with skin and tissue...that it was indeed large enough to cover her nose/mouth. They needed to superimpose her face on the skull to get a good picture of the size of a skull and the size of her face, both in relation to the size of the duct tape. AND, as the judge pointed out, the video did show the tape moving, so technically it showed different scenarios, not just the prosecutors' version.

Now, where I think they might have a problem is th morphing, and the fact that Casey was in the picture. She was, wasn't she? Or was it originally a picture with her, and they took Casey out? Because showing her...the murderous mother...alongside the child she murdered, and having Caylee's face morph into the skeleton...I can definitely see where that may have been put out there for the emotional drama. There would be no need to have Casey in it. Anyone know??Since Tuesday? Oh dear. :confused3 I think WFTV has daily summaries.

I agree and, like you, didn't care for emotional drama part.

Perhaps I missed the info along the way, but I am still wondering who Caylee's father is and why his name or any reference to him is not brought up.

Baez moving for a mistrial.

Baez asking for mistrial

basing it on morphing video being entered

Not again! Sigh... It's getting old.

Do you (or anyone) know if and when they will bring the bottle with amounts of chloroform in it into evidence?

The DIS is the only place I've heard about this. I'll have to look in cyberspace if there's any info on this.

So today I've learned from Beaz that Caylee climbed up the pool ladder fell on some duct tape (covering her mouth)on her way into the pool or her skull rolled across it when it came out of the bag because it's a dumping ground out there where the kids like to play. WTH!!!???

I want more about the bugs. It's interesting that bugs tell a good amount of what goes on around them. The way CSI and Bones episodes are played out in real life. The only thing about real life, is that there's a cute face we've all come to love, connected to it all.

Thank you guys for the updates on this thread. I had to take my DD7 to the horse farm for a end of the year party for Girl Scouts.

Nobody knows who Caylee's father is. I think Casey herself probably doesn't even know.

It also seems strange that during his testimoney, George claimed he didn't ask Casey who the father was when she first informed him that she was pregnant. I can't imagine many fathers who wouldn't want to know that.

I do know her mother purchased clothes for her during the hearings. She's probably not doing that now. Casey has had a ton of donations to her prison account for snacks etc. from strangers. Maybe she has a benefactor who donates or supplies money for clothing also.

Ya, I think looking at these blouses and tops CA is wearing, nothing to me is telling me anything is brand new and from the likes of Macy's. I am guessing they are all donations and more from consignment shops. The black top from yesterday looked 'faded'. And the slacks look dated as well.

Sooooo, shocking day in Orange County … cause of death HOMICIDE. JB and CA are not having a good day. I really like Dr. G. :thumbsup2

Ssssoooo...we don't know if Casey's picture was kept in that morphing photo? :confused3 LOL
You know, this really gets me. I had to have my 16 year old dog put down unexpectedly today, and I have sobbed and sobbed and sobbed some more. Anybody looking at me hasn't had to question whether there were any tears actually coming out. They were everywhere. Casey Anthony makes me sick, and her play acting makes me sick, and her complete disregard and lack of remorse for her beautiful child makes me sick. Sorry, vent over now....

Really?? He can decide basically that he doesn't like a "not guilty" verdict, and declare a mistrial?

We don't know, I wonder if SHE knows, and if HE knows he's probably hiding out.

I find that very odd too. Maybe they ARE lying because they don't want to have to make one more negative public statement about what kind of girl she is because she didn't know. :confused3

Totally insignificant qustion, I know, but I'm curious...

Anyone know where Casey (or anyone in jail and on trial) gets all the clothes she wears to court? She seems to have a pretty extensive wardrobe considering she seems to have something different on every day. Do you think they're things her parents brought in for her and they let her change into them each morning before court? :confused3 Or are the lawyers somewhat concerned with making her look "normal" and presentable?

Personally, I think she should be in a jail orange jumpsuit!
Sometimes I think a Polygamist Consignment Shop. Same place that does her hair.

I don't think he can just declare a mistrial, but he said he could reserve ruling on a request for a mistrial even up until just before he reveals the jury's verdict.

Her mother has said she asked right away and throughout the rest of the pregnancy, perhaps the father was leaving that up to the mother, being a woman and all... you never know how men think... Now my DH wouldn't be like that but there are some who definitely are and wouldn't discuss these types of things unless they really had no choice....

I'd love to look at that more. There have been motions for mistrial and it's my understanding the judge can wait to make the decision as far as declaring a mistrial. I think past motions have been denied at the time? So it seems (if I have this correct) that this one is kind of tangling? I can't however see that it's OK for him to have a verdict in hand, see what it is, and then declare a mistrial. :confused3

OMG...Jean Valez Mitchell has wacky Judge Seidlin from the Anna Nicole Smith craziness as one of her guests.

Actually, I think he has the option of setting aside the verdict if, in his opinion, it is not supported by the evidence. For example, if the evidence supported a lesser conviction of manslaughter, but the verdict was guilty of first degree, he has that option available to him I THINK (not an expert).

I have something on my mind that I dont know if this has been brougt up but once the duct tape was place over her nose and mouth somebody had to of held her hands to keep from ripping the duct tape off herself or tied her hands or chloroform was used to knock her out so she could not struggle to get the tape off. Has anyone heard the state talk about that issue?

I think the theory is that she drugged or used chloroformed her before she placed the tape on her mouth.

Oh boy. He hasn't changed a bit. I thought I was done with him.

Interesting.

One of the commentators (forgot his name) on JVM just said the mistrial was denied, but I don't think it was. And I got the impression that once it's denied, then that's a final decision regarding that particular motion.

The mistrial motion today was denied. He was just saying in the future he could choose hold his decisions on future mistrial motions.
