Anyone stayed here on the way down to the port? I've seen it from the outside and it looks stunning! Still thinking of pre-cruise ideas...either 2 nights on the beach or maybe one night in St. Augustine and 1 night at a beachfront hotel near the port...

I haven't stayed there, but I have to tell you that should you be in St. Augustine, there is an awesome little french pastry restaurant with wonderful (and inexpensive) lunches. It is on an alley, just a few blocks off of the main drag. If you stay in St. Augustine, let me know and I will get you the name and address.
We were in Jacksonville for my husband's job for the whole month of February 2008 and drove down to St. Augustine multiple times just to go to there to eat. Even now that we are back in Minnesota, he still mentions it every once in a while.

Hi,there! I live about 20 min. from the Casa Monica. It is quite expensive but a wonderful treat, esp. for couples. It is not what I consider a resort where small children would enjoy themselves.
There are many places to eat within the Historic District (all within walking distance of the Casa Monica) - lots of pastry places, sandwiches, pizza, and several other restaurants. Casa Monica itself has 95 Cordova which is quite popular.
It would be a great way to start your vacation! :thumbsup2

OMG -- Stay there!

We stayed there several years ago, actually, it was the summer before Katrina hit NOLA. It was an incredible trip. We flew into NOLA, stayed a few days and drove across the panhandle of FL [exactly where Katrina blew everything away], landed in St Augustine and stayed and the Casa Monica. It is an amazing hotel and there's some wonderful restaurants around it. I'll search my travel information and try to get back to you with those. It was so much fun. YOU WILL LOVE IT!

My husband and I stayed there for our tenth wedding anniversary - this was 8 years ago and before we had kids. It is a gorgeous place and we loved it. The restaurant is fabulous! (but expensive) I love St. Augustine, it is so beautiful and full of history and atmosphere.

I definitely think you should stop in St. Augustine. It's beautiful. My son and daughter-in-law both graduated from Flagler College and my daughter wil be attending there in the fall. The Casa Monica is beautiful. We've never stayed there but have eaten at their restaurant and it was delicious.
