Is there anything of interest here. Son has a cross country race here in a couple weeks. DH and I will go for weekend and are wondering?

There's some nice places to shop and eat, and an amphitheater (but I don't know if anything would be going on while you're here). It's a nice area, very developed, so you won't be bored. Are you looking for something specific to do while you're here?

No nothing specific. We'll have maybe a day and a half to kill. They have alot of activities planned for the runners, including a pasta dinner and a dance. Maybe some place to eat, nice area to walk around and window shop.

Downtown Cary is ok, but downtown Apex is much better. More shopping.

If you will have a rental car, you can drive out to Duke University in Durham. It's beautiful.

Do you know where in Cary you will be? I could give you some more specific information of what there is to do.

And don't forget to visit beautiful downtown Fuquay-Varena. If you can pronounce it right the first time, you get a prize! :p :D

Definitely go to Cary Crossroads, it's a big 'mall' type area, but outdoors. They have a lot of shops to wander around in, and some places to eat. It's just been built up fairly recently, the past 10 years or so, and there's a ton of restaurants and places like that. If you go to citysearch.com and enter Cary, NC as the city, it should give you some options as well. I hope you have a safe trip!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Very true!

I personally wouldn't bother with Crossroads. It is just your typical shops that are everywhere. It gets wicked busy on the weekends, too. Cars EVERYWHERE!!

It's at the SAS soccer park
here's one set of directions
From I-40 Eastbound (Chapel Hill/Durham):
Take the Cary 54 Exit (Exit 290) off of I-40. Turn right on top of the exit ramp (towards Cary). Turn left on SE Maynard Road. Take a left on Chatham Street and SAS Soccer Park is ½ mile on the right.

Exactly....you don't want to know how I pronounced it before we moved here! I was horrified, and said several times that I wouldn NOT live in a place with that name!

Believe it or not I've been to Fuquay Varina. DH interviewed for a job their like 8yrs ago. It was the day after a bad hurricane had swept thru town. Lots of power outages and downed trees. And our van broke down. And we got ripped off by the garage that fixed it. And the repair didn't work and we broke down again in the Baltimore/Dc area at the worst possible spot. It was a terrible trip and dh swears it was an omen not to take that job.

:wave2: There isn't a whole lot to do in Cary specifically....but you could go to the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh. If you're into shopping you should visit Southpoint, it's my favorite. Crossroads is way too busy and hard to navigate on the weekends.

I wish we had an omen like that before we moved here.

Do you know what Cary stands for? Containment Area for Relocated Yankees. I work here (next to Crossroads) but live in Durham. Raleigh has lots of great museums and restaurants and its very close to Cary.

A Yankee (much like myself), pulls into Fuquay-Varena, confused about the name and didn't want to offend anybody by pronouncing it wrong. So he goes into a fast-food place and asked the guy behind counter "How do you pronounce the name of this place?". The worker behind the counter looked at the man....seeng a very confused person and said.....very slowly....
"Bur-ger----King".
