Carts go in the "Cart Corral,"

What if, on the way to your car you thought of something funny and wet yourself because you were laughing so hard? Would that be a good reason?

*Note* I have NOT done this. But it does seems like a good reason to me.

When that happens you might not have a cart with you in the store and if you did you would probably just leave it and walk out without it. I will not divulge how I know that.

Guess what! You are not entitled to have everyone else put the cart back in the well, just because you want it that way. If stores want a high percentage of their carts returned, they have the power to make it so: Just put lots of cart wells out.

Nobody said they were entitled to it, its about having common courtesy and decency.

I personally wish every single store that has carts would do this.

I don't buy the I have children excuse -- been done there -- and I have always returned the carts.

Exactly, having chikdren doesn't make it impossible to return a cart, leave them in the car or take them with you and lug them back to the car on foot or in your arms. I live in the Northesat where we have hot humid summers and freezing winters, I have always managed to return my cart without doing any harm to any of my children.

This is just not on my radar of important things. I can't believe people even care about it.

I can't believe people are so selfish, and inconsiderate to not care about the damage their cart could do to someone elses expensive property.

This is one of the reasons that you need to put a quarter in to get a cart at Aldi. They don't have to have an employee go out and get them.

yep that and my local shoprites. I prefer doing that than having a a cart smashed into my car. I have also manager to safety shop with 4 kids and sometimes 2infants and toddlers 1 year apart and still manage to put my cart away. Its not that hard.

I have never been to an Aldi's so I have to ask-- does paying 25 cents really prevent people from leaving the cart around? I assume they get that back when they return it? Are lazy people really so concerned about their 25 cents that they think "You know, it is raining and I have a baby with a cold that is throwing up and I am pregnant with a broken leg and there is a guy that looks like a serial killer walking towards me with a knife but DARN IT, I want my quarter back!" ?????

Maybe I am just not desperate enough but if my only motivation for returning the cart to the proper place was 25 cents I would be leaving it blocking the car next to me (if I were a lazy, inconsiderate person).

And I live in a part of the country that regularly gets -20 temps and then come summer near 100 temps. Always take the cart back and now that said children are older THEY get to take the cart back! one of the perks of having kids.

And I'll tell you where I lived, it wasn't the norm. NOBODY took their carts back. I never knew it was an issue until I read about how "lazy" all my Florida neighbors were on the all-knowing, always right DISboards.

I frequent three different Publix in the Orlando area. They each have plenty of spots for carts. I rarely see non-returned carts. Guess I'm just lucky.

I had 2 sets of irish twins. 11 months and 15 months apart,, I loved pulling into a spot and having a cart right there rathe then "corraling" kids and carrying 2 at a time while hearding preschoolers into the storee. To this day I love finding a cart in my spot!!

Me too! I am always thrilled when the cart is right to the side of my car. It makes my life much easier. Hrmph! Maybe all you "cart corrallers" are really the rude lazy ones!

The year before last my 82 year old grandpa, who walked with a cane, got hit by a stray cart in the Walmart parking lot. My cousin said it just came rolling out from between 2 cars, it was really windy that day. Grandpa fell, scraped his arm and shoulder pretty bad, and broke his nose.

I always, always take the cart back. Today is was pouring down rain, 33 degrees, after work. I weigh 300 pounds and am looking at surgery soon for a torn meniscus. I had to park at the far end of the lot, and was really tired and hurting by the time I got done shopping.

Yes, I still took the cart back to the store.

Apparently you haven't had to get estimates on what it will cost to replace the bumper of a week old car after someone left their cart loose in a parking lot and you also can't empathize with those who have, or I suspect you would care about it.

My Publix in SoFla had a huge parking lot, and no car wells. Everyone left them in the lot. In 14 years of living there, I never saw anyone take a cart back. I would take them back before my son was born, if I was close to the front of the store.

Otherwise the bagger who came out to my car took them back. Then when they stopped doing that, I would often hand them to the guy out collecting all the carts, or to another shopper, or put them in the medians so they couldn't move.

I also have never heard of anyone IRL whose car was damaged by a runaway cart, so I didn't realize it ran to such Apocalyptic proportions.

I just bring my own cart. That way when I am done shopping I just put the whole cart full of groceries (no bags mind you) in my trunk. This stops me from having a "entitled" moment where I think that I am above returning a cart, while making excuses that make no sense really. Seriously if its to hard to return a cart in the cold/with kids/rainy, what have you, how are you even able to shop, let alone walk to the front doors?

Other posters, if you're arguing the whole cart returning thing, just admit you're lazy and move on. You're arguing the indefensible.

I think most people have at some point come out of a store to find that something has scratched or dented their car. Often, we assume that it was a careless driver. But having seen cars get hit by carts - including my own car, when I was too far away to stop it - I realize that some of the damage is caused by carts. Many stores these days even have signs in the parking lot saying they aren't responsible for damage caused by carts that weren't placed in the cart return. I doubt that they would bother with the signs if this wasn't something that happened fairly often.
