Carsland AP preview. ....crowded??

The original post I read about the contest said that 10,000 people would be selected and each could bring up to 6 guests. If those numbers are true, then spread across three time slots, by the math there could be anywhere from 3,334-20,000 guests present at any given preview time. I was thinking the reality might be somewhere around 10,000-12,000 people per time period. I would expect both the preview and DCA in general to feel crowded.

I think that's waaaay too many. I thought I read somewhere that DCA capacity is around 35,000.... Definitely less than 50,000.

I think it'll be crowded but less than what it'd be opening day. Not helpful I know but I don't think well really know for sure until we're there.

EDIT: You're right about the official rules though. It states that a MAX of 3,500 invites will be awarded per time slot, but that it depends on the winner's party size. To me, that makes it sound as though there will be 3,500 people in each time preview. As in, if each person only had a party of 1, then 3,500 invites would be sent... but that if everyone had a party size of 2, then 1,750 invites would be granted.

Those numbers just seem more reasonable to me. Here's the actual text from the rules:

"Maximum of Three Thousand Five Hundred (3,500) GRAND PRIZES for each Select Time (depends on each winner's Party Size [1 to 6 Members]). Maximum of Ten Thousand Five Hundred (10,500) GRAND PRIZES for all three Select Times."

I was just doing the math. Rumor has it that DCA's old capacity was around 20,000. Since Disney doesn't disclose these numbers, there's no way to know for sure. Some of the talk is that the remodel was going to expand capacity to at least 30,000. Those extra 10,000 people would be in large part because of the Carsland/Buena Vista expansions and the added entertainment and ride capacities. So 10,000 would be possible from a capacity standpoint for a preview of those lands. Another recent tidbit/rumor I read is that some CMs are claiming that DCA's previous capacity has been 20,000, but the higher ups are telling them to prepare for the park to hold as many as 40,000 at a time this summer. Again, these numbers are all pretty much rumor, but numbers are still fun to play with.

EDIT: I see your quote of the rules. Your interpretation of 3500 people at a time definitely makes more sense. Couldn't find the rules text anymore. The preview itself limiting people to the new areas might be reasonable with those numbers. I would still expect DCA to be very crowded though as the regular crowds will be there plus ultimately possibly the 10,500 additional people the preview has brought in during the day and who then decide to stick around in DCA before/after their preview time.
