I looked through recent threads, and haven't seen anything to this effect, but I was wondering if any rumors have been going around for a ride themed by the new Cars movie?

It seems it would be just too easy for Disney to refurbish either the Speedway or Test Track themed with Cars.

The rumor that was being bandied about was that the Tomorrowland Speedway was going to be re-tooled as a "Cars" themed ride. I would assume Disney would wait to ensure it was a hit, which it seems to be. Although Lasseter and/or Iger have said they would like to get attractions out closer to the release date such as the Pirates refurb.

Considering that the Tomorrowland Speedway is lame and in need of a makeover and Cars is looking like a smash hit, it seems an obvious fit.

Doubtful that anything would be done to Test Track until GM pulls out of it.

If CARS isn't a hit then there is something wrong with people. I LOOOOOOOOOOVE CARS! I would totally ride the Indy ride thing if I could drive Mater or Lightning!

It looks like it will be a "hit" enough to get a theme park ride. Especially in light of the constant Pixar stuff going on.

If there is one ride at WDW that could stand some theming, it's Indy. Adding the Cars characters, and letting you drive around Radiator Springs, would be fantastic. I am all for that.

Something needs to be done with the Indy Ride, it is an eye, nose and ear sore. The "Cars" theme would be great.

No, please no more Pixar! There's already 4 or 5 Pixar-based attractions sneaking into Disney. 2 Finding Nemo attractions (1 at Epcot, 1 at Animal Kingdom), the Toy Story attraction at MGM, (plus another unnamed one that may or may not be Pixar-related), and the Monsters Inc. Laugh Factory in MK. This is definitely Pixar overkill 2007 and 2008 will honestly be the year of Pixar-based attractions...watch me throw up now.

And Mater could go backwards.

In terms of animated movies, Pixar is now part of Disney (or rather Disney is Pixar), so why the burn with Pixar movie themeing? Dinsey animation has lost any semblance of creativity or touch with their own animation studio, that's why they bought Pixar. Valiant, Chicken Little, and The Wild were average at best, and I won't even comment on the recent traditional animated movies (Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Brother Bear, Home on the Range.)

I certainly don't want WDW to become PixarWorld, but putting in a themed attraction based on a popular movie (or a movie based on a popular themed attraction) has always been done by Disney, and it shouldn't matter whether it comes from the Pixar Division or not.

I can see some concern for purists with scrapping original traditional rides with new themeing or new attractions altogether, and certainly there are some that should never be touched, but there are some that had to go or need re-invention (Mr. Toads, 20,000 leagues, Carousel, etc). The Indy Speedway is old and outdated and needs refurbishment regardless. Right now, it is barely a step above a carnival ride, and with NASCAR's prominence, Indy racing just is not relevant anymore. Either refurbish and re-theme it with NASCAR (and I hate NASCAR), or them it after Cars, I prefer the latter. I agree Test Track probably won't change unless GM gets out (although I think it could be re-tooled into a great Cars-themed ride).

It is a no-brainer to re-theme Indy Speedway for Cars. Just replace the vehicle body shells and the scenery about the premises.

But I would not guarantee that it would not remain a nose and ear sore except IMHO the vehicles are quite decrepit as we speak.

Now Disney did re-theme Living Seas for Nemo and Crush and friends.

I don't believe that "news."

Chevron and Disneyland have a 13-year marketing, promotion and sponsorship agreement. The agreement was announced Oct. 29, 1998, so it should run through late 2011.
